This role involves engaging with a large public sector body, contributing to the efficient delivery of agreed outputs while troubleshooting issues and proactively identifying underlying causes for repeated support concerns. Relevant technical certifications are essential.

Main Responsibilities

The core duties of this position include:

  • Linux Server Administration and Management
  • Implementation of Backup Solutions
  • Utilization of Monitoring Solutions like Solarwinds and Nagios
  • Proactive prevention of business impacts and disruptions
  • Assisting with upgrades and/or migrations as requested
  • Conducting fail-over testing
  • Installation, configuration, and updating of Operating Systems
  • User Access Management
  • Reporting key performance indicators
  • Backups and restores as per request and backup policies
  • MS Server OS patching and support
  • Management of Virtual Environment
  • Resource allocation management
  • Contribution to ongoing Team Participation
  • Assisting with business continuity planning (BCP) and disaster recovery (DR)
  • Providing mentoring to other IT support staff

Key Requirements

The following skills and qualifications are essential for this role:
  • Strong technical knowledge of Linux administration & supporting Linux-based environments
  • Experience with disaster recovery (DR) implementation
  • Knowledge of security information and event management (SIEM) systems
  • Proficiency in enterprise backup solutions such as Veeam and IBM Spectrum Protect
  • Familiarity with Networking, Firewall and Web Application Firewall
  • Experience in mentoring, guiding and assisting other employees
  • Ability to provide technical direction to the broader infrastructure team
  • Excellent analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills

Nice to Have

The following skills are beneficial:
  • Experience within Public Sector
  • Familiarity with Oracle Linux, Windows & UNIX
  • VMware administration experience

Other Details

This position is a hybrid role with 2 days expected onsite. The estimated duration of this engagement is open to discussion based on project needs.Seniority level
