AtkinsRéalis, one of the world's leading providers of environmental professional consulting and support services with offices across Ireland, is seeking a Senior/Principal Freshwater Ecologist / Hydro-Ecologist for water projects and water management issues throughout Ireland. The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of hydrology, water quality, ecological status as defined by the Water Framework Directive, and measures to improve aquatic ecology in line with WFD objectives for 'good status by 2027'. Experience with Irish freshwater ecology issues, assessment metrics like Q and SSRS, and knowledge of riverine diatoms, macro and micro-algae, macrophytes, and fisheries (especially salmonid) is preferred.

  • Educated to at least Degree level (Level 8/9).
  • Relevant work experience, including in a consultancy environment.
  • Chartered Scientist, Environmentalist, or Ecologist.
  • Experience in business development and client engagement.
  • Proposal and tender writing experience, with a record of winning and delivering projects.
  • Full Irish / EU driving licence.
  • Excellent communication skills, confident with clients, staff reports, and senior management.
  • High integrity and commitment to company values.
  • Flexible, able to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Positive, approachable, and motivated.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
