Therole
The office is wholetime, temporary and pensionable. A specific purpose contract will apply for the duration of time. Persons employed will be required to work in any location within the South Dublin administrative area.
Salary
€59,417-€60,871-€62,568-€64,271-€65,974-€67,495-€69,054-€70,563-€72,069-
€74,649 (1st LS1) - €77,243 (2nd LSI).
Hours of Work
The successful candidates normal hours of work will be 35 hours per week. The Council reserves the right to alter your hours of work from time to time.
Annual Leave
Annual leave entitlement for this position is 30 days.

Candidates will be of good character.
Health
Each candidate must be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

Essential Education, training, experience
- Hold a third level qualification (Level Eight in the National Framework of Qualifications) or equivalent professional qualification in Engineering, Town Planning, Geography, Environmental Science or a related discipline.
- Have strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills and a good knowledge of information technology.
- Have a current full Class B driving licence free from endorsements. The Climate Change and Environmental Awareness Officer will drive a motor car in the course of their duties and for this purpose provide and maintain a car to the satisfaction of the local authority.
- Previousexperienceofworkingwithclimatechangerelatedpolicyand issues.
- Workingknowledgeofrelevantclimatechangepolicyandlegislationwouldbe desirable.
- Haveabroadknowledgeandunderstandingofenvironmentalissuesatalocal, national and EU level.
- PreviousexperienceintheareaofPublicRelations,Marketingand/orPromotionalwork.
- Demonstrateanunderstandingofthestrategy formulationprocessfor the realisationof organisational goals and objectives.
- Understandthesocio-politicalcontextwithinwhichservicesaredelivered.
- Haveexperienceofmanagingchangeandimplementingnewwaysofworking.
- Haveexperienceofdeliveringresultsandbringingprojectsandtaskstocompletion.
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience of delivering outcomes through careful operationalplanning,andthemanagementandmeasurementofperformanceoutcomes.
- Haveexperienceofmanagingtherole,performanceandcontributionofeachstaffmemberfor which they are responsible to ensure delivery of their operational plan and thereby achieve their corporate objectives.

Duties
Thedutiesinclude,butarenotlimitedtothefollowing
- Lead and manage the Councils Environmental Awareness team, assisting the Climate Actionteam whenrequired andtheCouncilingeneral,inthedevelopmentofrelevantpolicies and plans for the protection of the countys environment.
- Promoting and supporting the delivery of South Dublin County Councils Climate Action Plans,environmentalpoliciesandregionalenvironmentalplans.Theseincludeareasofwaste resource management, recycling and environmental action plans, pollution prevention, conservation and protection of amenities.
- PromoteandsupporttheRegionalWasteManagementOfficeinthedeliveryofthe National Waste Plan for a Circular Economy.
- ParticipateinCitizenEngagementanddeliverpublicpresentationson relevantactionsfrom the Climate Action Plan and on Environmental Awareness topics.
- Manage the delivery of the Tidy Towns programme in South Dublin assisting groups in applying for the Tidy Towns Competition and in developing 5-year plans. Working with the Environmental Awareness team in arranging seminars and liaising with the Tidy Towns groups and other Council Departments in delivering the programme.
- Researching, developing and delivering climate action and environmental awareness education programmes and resources for schools, community / other groups regularly.
- Active promotion of the South Dublin County Councils Climate Action and Environmental Services activities through public information sessions, seminars and workshops, leaflets, newsletters, website, social media or other avenues as appropriate.
- Manage financial and budgetary requirements including grants and project funding.
- Manage and motivate the team and ensure effective team building.
- Liaison with other public sector organisations, the private sector and voluntary / community groups in relation to climate change and environmental education.
- Dealingwiththemedia,includingthewritingofspeeches,pressreleases,radiointerviews and running campaigns.
- Workwithcrosssectoralcommittees,electedmembersandworkinggroupsinallareasof Climate Action and Environmental Awareness.
- Promotion of good practice and dissemination of information on other aspects of the environmentsuchasprotectionofnaturalwaters,heritageissues,planningandconservation and the promotion of sustainable energy structures, technologies and practices.
- Attending events and meetings outside normal working hours (such as evenings and weekends).
- Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time including any future requirements for reallocation of work and / or redeployment.
Persons employed will be required to work in any location within the South Dublin administrative area.
