With an annual expenditure of almost €1.8 billion (revenue and capital) and a workforce of almost 5,990 (FTEs), the City Council provides a diverse, multi-layered and evolving range of services and infrastructure to both citizens and visitors to Dublin that sustain the life of the city. These services include housing, planning, development, economic, environmental, roads and traffic, fire and emergency, leisure, cultural and community services. Many of these services, including traffic, drainage and fire and emergency services are provided on a regional basis for the Greater Dublin Area.

The continuing development and renewal of the city's infrastructure, urban fabric and facilities, in conjunction with other public authorities, is a key feature of the Council's role and an essential support to the national economy. The Council has a critical role in supporting the economic growth and development of the City and its cultural and recreational life, and makes a major investment in social inclusion and community development through a wide range of housing, community and area-based services. The Council is increasingly exploring new and innovative ways to tackle City challenges, particularly as they relate to climate and sustainability, and to deliver services while meeting citizens' changing expectations, achieving efficiencies, and continuing to meet the demand for increased accountability.

This is a great opportunity to join Dublin City Council at a time of transformation and innovation. The Senior Executive Engineer will be responsible for the efficient management of staff and the work programme of the directorates/department and function to which they are assigned. Managers at this level work within defined parameters relevant to the position, in accordance with Dublin City Council's vision and objectives as set out in its Corporate Plan and the role is interchangeable across directorates. Delivery of efficient services and value for money is crucial.

The Senior Executive Engineer, typically reporting to a Senior Engineer, will be required to lead a team or teams and to provide technical and managerial support across all service areas and to liaise with external agencies and support the democratic process.

The Senior Executive Engineer will be required to work closely with Management and Elected Members to deliver the full range of services, implement local policy decisions and deliver on strategic corporate objectives and in accordance with the general policy direction of the elected council at both full Council and Electoral Area level. They may also be required to deputise for the Senior Engineer.

Candidates shall on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms:

• Hold an honours bachelor's degree (level 8 on the NFQ) in Engineering accredited at CEng or CEng with FL level by Engineers Ireland;
• Hold an ordinary bachelor's degree (level 7 on the NFQ) in Engineering AND a postgraduate master's degree (level 9 on the NFQ) in Engineering;
• Hold a master's degree (level 9 on the NFQ) in Engineering attained after completing an integrated master's programme of at least 4 years duration and accredited at CEng level by Engineers Ireland or equivalent internationally;
• Have achieved the registered professional title of Chartered Engineer and be registered on the Register of Chartered Engineers of Engineers Ireland or equivalent internationally;
• Have at least seven years of satisfactory relevant experience of engineering work;
• Possess a high standard of technical training and experience;
• Possess a high standard of administrative and management experience;
• Have satisfactory knowledge of public service organisation or the ability to acquire such knowledge;
