The Rotunda Hospital

Details

The Rotunda Hospital is a voluntary hospital with an independent Board of Governors which manages its commitments and responsibilities through Board Committees, Sub-Committees and Working Groups. The Estate Campus Development Committee is one of these committees.

The Estates Committee is an advisory committee to the Board. The Estates Committee shall ensure that the Board of governors are adequately advised to enable them make appropriate decisions on the physical structures of the Rotunda Hospitals to ensure it meets its obligations in respect of providing safe infrastructure and meeting ESG and sustainability requirements. The infrastructure management shall be in accordance with current Legislation, Good Practice Guidelines and the Hospital Charter. The Estates Committee will also risk assess physical infrastructure and advise Board of measures required to address any potential risk issues.

The Estate Campus Development Committee is made up of a mix of Governors and External Experts. The Committee meets approximately 5 times during the year.

The Rotunda Hospital on Parnell Square is the oldest and busiest maternity hospital in Ireland. It is a tertiary referral centre, providing care to the most vulnerable patients and complex pregnancies. Each year it deals with approximately 9,000 pregnant mothers and delivers over 8,000 babies. The Hospital accommodates 25% of the neonatal care capacity in the State and admits some of the most critically ill babies, many of whom are transferred from other hospitals.

The Rotunda's original buildings on Parnell Square were constructed in 1757 with some areas still being used as inpatient accommodation. With the likelihood of the hospital remaining on campus for > than 15-20 years, the Rotunda needs to develop its existing infrastructure in order to address high clinical risks and continue to provide services for women and babies in an appropriate environment on its existing campus.

The Development of a new Critical Care Wing and Associated Works will address the most urgent critical, clinical risk and requirements within the context of:

the National Maternity Strategy, Creating a Better Future Together, 2016-2026.

Model of Care for Neonatal Services in Ireland (2015).

HIQA guidance for monitoring against National Standards for the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections in acute healthcare services (2020).

The Project Board for this development will include multiple stakeholder including Rotunda Board and will be the ultimate decision making authority for the Project. The likely nominee to Project Board on behalf of the Rotunda Board will be from Estates Campus Development Committee.

To submit an application to join the Estates Campus Development Committee please send your CV and a cover letter to jhussey@rotunda.ie Queries about the role can also be sent to jhussey@rotunda.ie
