Job Overview

As a Commercial Underwriter, you will play an active role in underwriting Commercial multi-line property and liability business. You will develop relationships with broker partners and FBD sales colleagues to achieve growth targets and objectives.

The successful candidate should be driven, commercially minded, proactive, and confident in decision-making within the FBD support framework to grow the business in line with our risk appetite.

You will join a team that works both independently and collectively to achieve targets. Please note that this role will be based in our Head Office - Dublin 12. We currently operate a hybrid model of 2 days in the office and 3 days working from home.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Underwrite Commercial business according to standards and limits to meet financial goals.
  2. Contribute to the growth of the Commercial Lines business through acquisition and quality risk selection.
  3. Maintain underwriting discipline through monitoring and pricing tools.
  4. Manage referrals and queries within the Delegated Underwriting Authority (D.U.A.) guidelines.
  5. Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure excellent service.
  6. Support product strategy development and review line performance focusing on growth and risk quality.
Additional Responsibilities
  1. Operate professionally and with initiative within a team.
  2. Assist in mentoring staff on technical insurance matters.
  3. Report on business growth, opportunities, and market trends.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Professional insurance qualification at least Certified Insurance Practitioner (CIP); ACII desirable.
  • Meet regulatory requirements per the Minimum Competency Code and Fitness and Probity Standards.
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of Commercial Underwriting experience in Property and Liability.
  • Proven high performance record.

  • Strong technical understanding of insurance products and underwriting.
  • Pragmatic decision-making skills with independent work capability.
  • Focus on quality service and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship building.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to develop expertise.
  • Energetic, positive outlook, and ambitious.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and underwriting applications.

This role is within Pay Band C of FBD's Graduate Pay Band.
