Purpose of the post

The Clinical Specialist will be responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of an evidenced based, patient focused, quality Occupational Therapy Service, in an older person's specialty area. The purpose of the post will be to:

  • Improve on existing care of the Older Persons Occupational Therapy Services across the Hospital Campus and support expansion of health and social care needs to Older Persons in line with National Clinical Programme for Older Person and local guidelines
  • Act as a quality resource for evidence-based practice occupational therapy interventions in the care of older person
  • Promote and ensure clinical effectiveness in the delivery of occupational therapy services in care of older Persons through performance management, education, audit and research

The role of the clinical specialist emphasizes evaluation and development of the specialist area(s) in the care of older person and translating research/audit reports into clinical practice for better patient outcome.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver an evidenced-based, patient-focused Occupational Therapy service for older persons
  • Lead quality improvements, education, audit and research to promote clinical effectiveness
  • Support expansion of health and social care needs for older persons in line with national/local guidelines
