The Role.

As a Commercial Analyst at GMC Utilities Group, you will play a key role in providing commercial support across key operational areas including Major Works, Site Works, Meter Reading, and Battery Installations. You will assist in cost analysis, performance reporting, financial forecasting, and the development of commercial strategies. This is a dynamic role ideal for an analytical thinker with a strong commercial mindset and a desire to contribute to impactful infrastructure projects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:

Major Works:

  • Support the commercial management of large-scale utility projects.
  • Assist in budgeting, cost tracking, and risk analysis for infrastructure works.
  • Prepare reports on commercial performance and contract compliance.

Site Works:

  • Analyse site work programs for cost effectiveness and schedule adherence.
  • Monitor project KPIs and provide variance analysis.
  • Collaborate with project teams to resolve commercial or cost-related issues.

Meter Reading:

  • Track productivity and performance of meter reading teams.
  • Evaluate cost and revenue streams associated with meter reading services.
  • Support pricing and billing validation to ensure commercial accuracy.

Batteries:

  • Assess the commercial viability of battery installations and upgrades.
  • Support the development of financial models to evaluate ROI.
  • Work with procurement and operations to manage supplier and subcontractor costs.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support the preparation and submission of financial reports and tender documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with financial governance and cost control procedures.
  • Liaise with operations, finance, and client teams to optimise project outcomes.

The Candidate: Required Experience and Competencies:

  • 2+ years' experience in a commercial, financial, or analytical role (ideally within utilities or construction).
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
