Summary of job

The Irish Film Institute (IFI), the Irish national body charged with the promotion of film culture, is responsible for collecting, preserving, and making accessible Ireland's moving image heritage. The collections include film, document, and digital collections. The Digital Preservation Manager leads the Digital Collections team to ensure digital objects remain authentic, accessible, re-usable, and understandable in the future.

The Digital Preservation Manager (DPM) is a senior manager responsible for the management and preservation of digital collections, overseeing the Digital Collections Team. The DPM also oversees the Archive's digital network, systems, equipment, and infrastructure, liaising with vendors and support teams to ensure operational efficiency.

The DPM works closely with the Head of Archive and other senior managers to develop and implement archive policies, support grant applications, and plan for future technological and infrastructural needs.

Essential qualifications and skills include practical experience with digital preservation, especially in libraries, museums, or archives; qualifications in information technology, digital curation, or related fields; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; staff management experience; familiarity with infrastructure management; and project planning skills. Experience in policy development within an archive environment, problem-solving, and the ability to communicate technical ideas simply are highly desirable.
