Job purpose: To support the kitchen team by preparing and serving high-quality meals during weekends and relief cover. The role ensures that all food is prepared to a high standard in compliance with HACCP regulations.
Responsibilities- Prepare, cook, and present meals to the required standards.
- Ensure all food safety, hygiene, and HACCP regulations are followed at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, including equipment and storage areas.
- Monitor stock levels, rotate stock, and assist with ordering as required.
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen team and cleaning staff.
- Ensure portion control, waste minimisation, and cost-effective use of ingredients.
- Primary responsibility for running the kitchen when on duty.
- To ensure that the nutritional needs of the residents are met.
- Cover for the Head Chef or other team members when required.
- Previous experience working as a Chef (ideally in a busy kitchen or catering environment).
- Knowledge and experience of HACCP and food safety standards (must have HACCP certification).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Flexibility to work weekends and provide relief cover as needed.
- Understanding of the issues related to working with the services users and a willingness/capacity to work with service users.
- Passion for food, creativity, and high standards of presentation.
- Experience in catering for large groups.
- Previous experience of working in a social care environment.
- First Aid and/or Manual Handling training.
- Knowledge of dietary requirements and allergen management.
- Strong organisational skills
