Overview

Job purpose: To support the kitchen team by preparing and serving high-quality meals during weekends and relief cover. The role ensures that all food is prepared to a high standard in compliance with HACCP regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare, cook, and present meals to the required standards.
  • Ensure all food safety, hygiene, and HACCP regulations are followed at all times.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, including equipment and storage areas.
  • Monitor stock levels, rotate stock, and assist with ordering as required.
  • Work collaboratively with the kitchen team and cleaning staff.
  • Ensure portion control, waste minimisation, and cost-effective use of ingredients.
  • Primary responsibility for running the kitchen when on duty.
  • To ensure that the nutritional needs of the residents are met.
  • Cover for the Head Chef or other team members when required.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working as a Chef (ideally in a busy kitchen or catering environment).
  • Knowledge and experience of HACCP and food safety standards (must have HACCP certification).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and provide relief cover as needed.
  • Understanding of the issues related to working with the services users and a willingness/capacity to work with service users.
  • Passion for food, creativity, and high standards of presentation.
Desirable
  • Experience in catering for large groups.
  • Previous experience of working in a social care environment.
  • First Aid and/or Manual Handling training.
  • Knowledge of dietary requirements and allergen management.
