Low Voltage Electrical Design Engineer

My client provides electrical power engineering services to the industrial, electrical utilities and renewable energy sectors in Ireland and the UK. Specialising in MV and LV power requirements, their experienced electrical engineering and support teams ensuring a seamless, responsive and professional service from system design right through to maintenance and support.

• Coordinating with clients, analysis of design documentation and identification of scope gaps.
• Developing electrical plans and specifications for projects.
• Developing project scope, budget and providing technical submittal.
• Analysing customer\'s Single Line Diagram (SLD), Specification, BOM, Site Layout, Purchase Order, and other documents of the low-voltage distribution system, switchboards (MDB / SDB) and DC systems.
• Perform electrical calculations for electrical systems: load calculation, maximum predicted loading of an installation, Arc Flash and Short Circuit, Busbar sizing, busbar trucking, form of separation, degree of protection, busbar compartments, clearance and creepage distances. Preparing the discrimination study report.
• Providing allowable cross-sectional area of circuit conductors. Providing cable schedule and specification, prepare cable route, trench, and ladder layout and calculation. Perform design tasks including lighting layouts, communications, fire alarm, and security systems. Prepare and modify equipment specifications. Review/ verify switchboard configurations.
• Prepare General Arrangement drawings, Single Line Diagram, Panel layouts, Bills of Materials and Schematic Drawings for Switchboards / Distribution Box, Enclosure, and compartmentation. Provide drawings based on IEC, UL & CSA standards. Carry out design work to create drawings for design including physical layouts and control/protection schematics as required.
• Manage submittals through the approvals process, track procurement and delivery of electrical equipment and complete the receipt verification process. Share relevant technical inputs with purchasing, construction, and commissioning teams. Develop procedures/standards for hand-off to Manufacturing operations for operating and maintaining systems, including standard work instructions, compliance control plans, and standard O&M documentation.
• Work with project team to ensure progress is monitored and maintained in line with project timelines with communication to stakeholders. Review electrical installation with operations team to ensure the design is constructible. Liaise with design team & supply chain during operation of project on-site and successful handover.
• Liaise with suppliers on specifications and components. Comply with site safety, environmental rules and applicable legislation. Create tender, design, construction and as built drawings to meet project timelines. Ensure records are retained of design development, status and record control. Ensure technical assessments and variations to the sales file are completed and changes are communicated and resolved.
• You'll work with all departments within the company — from Sales through to Commissioning — and with all stakeholders. Keep up-to-date documentation and maintain good client contact.

• Industry code understanding and familiarity with IEC standards including IEC 60364, IEC 61439, IEC 61140, 60479 series and IEC Familiarity with BS 7671, I.S. 1010, UL 508A. Experience designing low-voltage distribution systems, switchboards (MDB / SDB) and DC systems.
• Experience with electrical design software Eplan and Etap. Experience with CAD design software AutoCAD. Proficiency in electrical design software including Siemens SIMARIS, Schneider EcoStruxure, ABB e-Design or similar.
• Good analytical, problem-solving and decision-making ability.
