Job Description

The role of the Low Voltage Electrical Design Engineer involves coordinating with clients to analyze design documentation and identify scope gaps. This includes developing electrical plans and specifications for projects, as well as analyzing customer Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), specifications, Bill of Materials (BOMs), site layouts, and other documents related to low-voltage distribution systems, switchboards, and DC systems.

Key responsibilities include performing electrical calculations for electrical systems, such as load calculation, maximum predicted loading of an installation, Arc Flash, and Short Circuit. The engineer will also be responsible for providing allowable cross-sectional area of circuit conductors, preparing cable schedules and specifications, and creating drawings based on IEC, UL, and CSA standards.

Additionally, the Low Voltage Electrical Design Engineer will work with project teams to ensure progress is monitored and maintained in line with project timelines. They will review electrical installations with operations teams to ensure the design is constructible and liaise with design teams and supply chain during on-site operation and successful handover.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Industry code understanding and familiarity with IEC standards, including IEC 60364, IEC 61439, IEC 61140, and IEC 61201, are essential for this role. Experience designing low-voltage distribution systems, switchboards, and DC systems is also required. Proficiency in electrical design software, such as Eplan and Etap, as well as CAD software AutoCAD, is necessary.

Good analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities are critical for success in this position. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of electrical design principles and be able to apply them effectively in a fast-paced environment.
