Overview

St. Joseph's Foundation is a voluntary organisation providing comprehensive services for people with intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1968, the Foundation has grown through continuously responding to the needs of people with intellectual disabilities and their families. The Foundation provides services to children and adults through day services, residential, respite care, and home support in the North Cork and South West Limerick region. We have day and residential services in various locations in the North Cork and South Limerick area, including Charleville, Dromina, Newtownshandrum, Buttevant, Newmarket, Mitchelstown and Mallow in Cork, and Ballylanders, Ballyagran, Bruree, Bruff, Croom, Dromcollogher, Granagh, Kilmallock, and Liskennett in Limerick.

Person In Charge

Permanent Post – Full time

The ideal candidate will have
  • Not less than 3 years' experience working with children/adults with an intellectual disability in a residential setting.
  • Social care worker or Nursing qualification
  • Proven managerial skills with not less than three years' experience at management level and an appropriate management qualification to Fetac/QQI level 6 or equivalent.
  • Ability to lead a staff team effectively.
  • Experience of managing residential budgets.
  • A detailed knowledge of HIQA.
  • Experience working with adults with behaviours that challenge (desirable).
  • A full Irish manual Driving Licence

Hourly commitment: 37.5 hours (4 day week possible)

Salary range 50k to 64k plus allowance of 1.5k.

Job goal

To manage the residence and to listen to, learn from, support and work to achieve the priorities of the residents in line with The National Standards for Residential Services for Children and Adults with Disabilities 2013 and the Health Care Act 2007 (Care and support of residents in designated centres for persons with disabilities) regulations 2013. To provide them with a home-from-home in accordance with the Foundation's Mission Statement: "To provide people with disabilities the opportunity to live the life of their choice to their fullest potential".

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities are: quality assurance, resource management, staffing and staff development, facilitating communication and professional / clinical leadership.

  • Be proactive in promoting and ensuring that the Ethos, Mission, Vision and core values of the St. Josephs Foundation are upheld.
  • Ensure that personnel within their designated areas of responsibility work in accordance with the policies and ethos of the Foundation.
  • Ensure that all nursing staff adhere to professional code of conduct and operate within their scope of practice.
  • Ensure concerns for the safety and welfare of residents are reported in a timely manner.
  • Ensure a holistic Model of Care for Service Users which is consistent with a Person Centred approach.
  • Be familiar with all Policies and Procedures, particularly those pertaining to client safety and welfare.
  • Leadership & Accountability; lead the interdisciplinary care for service users in areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure staff are empowered through coaching, education, supervision; lead the nursing and allied team through regular team meetings.
  • Enable staff to identify and suggest improvement initiatives; ensure high standards of care in daily operations.
  • Use a consultative approach and demonstrate an approachable management style.
  • Monitor and evaluate quality assurance methods and clinical effectiveness; contribute to quality methodologies.
  • Ensure clinical practice in areas of responsibility is evidence-based.
  • Management and Staff Development: commit to continuous professional development and ensure best practice.
  • Coordinate resources to achieve tasks; plan rosters in a timely and fair manner reflecting service needs.
  • Health and Safety: implement safety practices according to the service; conduct hazard identification audits and take appropriate action.
  • Ensure staff are familiar with emergency and other procedures and regulations; conduct performance management reviews.
  • Intervene when standards of behaviour, performance or attitude contravene policy; support process of person-centred planning.
  • Planning: prioritise demands under pressure or in emergencies; maintain records and reports for operations and meetings.
  • Within areas of responsibility plan short, medium and long-term goals; implement appropriate skill mix with Line Manager.
  • Human Resources: recruit as required; develop staff retention strategies; promote personal and professional development; maintain good staff morale.
  • Ensure induction for new staff and understanding of duties, responsibilities and performance standards.
  • Communicate policies and procedures; foster team-working; assist in grievance and disciplinary procedures; manage absences and costs effectively.
  • Finance: ensure efficient use of resources; monitor budget variances; account for service users' monies per policy.
  • Health and Safety: ensure accidents/incidents are reported; ensure knowledge of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005; ensure emergency actions and fire safety are in place.
  • Professional & Clinical Responsibility: ensure high standard of clinical/holistic care; promote dignity, confidentiality and professional conduct; uphold advocacy and person-centred care.
  • Address complaints in accordance with service policy.
