About the role:

Contract Type – Full-Time Permanent.
Working Hours – a 5-week rolling roster of night shifts, 37.5 hours a week, from Monday to Sunday availability.
Location – Dublin city Centre.
Salary - €33,500 - €38,250 depending on experience, plus 12% allowance per night.

All our emergency services are provided on a low threshold basis with a harm reduction model and a full suite of services for clients. The aim of our emergency services is to support our residents to move on and to be able to sustain long-term accommodation. We have several measures in place to ensure a quality, wraparound support service is provided to enable people to move out of homelessness.

As a Support Worker, you'll help meet client needs on a nightly basis; you will provide in-the-moment support and safety to clients. You will contribute to ensuring effective and consistent best-practice standards are followed in the Dublin Simon Community emergency accommodation services.

The Support Worker role is an opportunity to gain frontline experience, with many support workers progressing to project worker roles within the organization. You will be provided with 10 training days throughout the year, along with on-the-job coaching and mentoring, to support your success in this role.

Your responsibilities:

  • Carry out health and safety checks as per local policy and record them.
  • Provide support to clients at night, record on support plans, update PASS and night bed list, encourage sleep hygiene.
  • Provide care interventions, including daily living skills support and relapse prevention.
  • Ensure all new clients receive a thorough induction and are aware of their rights and responsibilities.
  • Ensure the building is secure at night and all systems (alarms, CCTV, emergency response) are operational, adhering to lone working policies.
  • Deliver therapeutic and diversionary interventions, providing emotional and motivational support, and promoting positive mental health, self-esteem, and self-respect.
  • Support the manager in implementing strategic and operational objectives, and develop and execute related goals.
  • Prepare rooms for service user intake to maintain standards.
  • Manage crises and conflicts effectively.
  • Ensure proper handovers, maintain diaries, incident reports, and follow-ups in accordance with policies.
  • Manage accommodation logistics, including routine maintenance, cleaning, security inspections, and safety checks.
  • Implement neighborhood policies consistently.
  • Engage in active interventions like harm reduction and overdose prevention.
  • Develop interpersonal skills, deal with relationships, family liaison, and behavioral issues.

Essential for the role:

  • Level 6, 7, or 8 qualification in a relevant field with 6 months experience in a similar setting (including voluntary work and college placements).

Or

  • Level 5 qualification in a relevant field with 12 months experience in a similar setting (including voluntary work and college placements).
  • Flexibility to work in an agile environment.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Experience in health & safety inspections and audits.
