This position invites applications for a permanent Professor in Educational Psychology. The successful candidate will lead in programme development, teaching, research, and external engagement within the School of Psychology.
OverviewThe School of Psychology is an ambitious, research-intensive School in the Faculty of Science and Health. DCU offers a range of psychology programmes and postgraduate courses, with a strong research community and international engagement. The School is student-centred, collaborative and inclusive, and provides an environment for pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies and cutting-edge research.
Role ProfileThe permanent Professor of Educational Psychology will report to the Head of the School of Psychology. This is a new position. The successful candidate will have a professional qualification in Educational Psychology, field experience, and a strong academic record in Educational Psychology. Responsibilities include leading programme development and coordination, contributing to high-quality teaching, leading a research programme, and engaging with external activities. The post offers an opportunity to contribute to the School\'s growth and national/international reputation.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe duties are, but not limited to, the following:
Teaching and Learning- Delivering teaching to high academic standards.
- Using diverse teaching and assessment methodologies to foster deep learning and lifelong skills.
- Designing, developing and leading new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
- Enriching the scholarship of teaching within the School.
- Fostering a culture of teaching innovation and a positive learning environment.
- Providing research supervision for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Leading an internationally recognised and impactful research programme in the field.
- Publishing in top-tier international journals.
- Seeking external funding to support personal and School research initiatives.
- Translating research knowledge in line with DCU strategic goals.
- Leading interdisciplinary research collaborations within the School and wider University.
- Providing hands-on mentorship to early career academics.
- Leading dissemination of research through conferences, seminars and workshops.
- Enhancing the School\'s international reputation through conferences, editorships, external examining, etc.
- Developing international research networks to enrich School activity.
- Enriching the research culture and environment in the School.
- Engagement in external academic, business (including consultancy), professional, public sector and community activities approved by the Executive Dean.
- Representing the School in marketing, recruitment, and work placement visits.
- Influencing strategic planning and direction of the School.
- Delivering management and service roles at School, Faculty and University levels.
- Leading accreditation related activities.
- Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the University.
- Participating in relevant committees and working groups; contributing to staff development.
- Doctorate in Educational Psychology and a minimum of 5 years of practitioner experience in a psychology service.
- Eligibility for graduate membership of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) and CORU registration as an Educational Psychologist.
- Strong track record of excellence and innovation in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including supervision of dissertations.
- Evidence of an established and impactful research programme and external funding history.
- Experience in curriculum development and innovative pedagogical approaches is desirable.
- Familiarity with the Irish Education and Healthcare systems is desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- Evidence of external engagement and ability to build national/international linkages.
The postholder will undertake essential compliance training:
- Cyber Security Awareness
- Performance Review & Development (PRD) for People Managers (where applicable)
Other training may be required when needed.
Salary ScaleProfessor - €104,516.00 to €139, Please refer to DCU Payscales for the applicable payscale. Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and in line with current Government pay policy.
