Overview

Join to apply for the Critical Environment Technician - 24/7 Shift Position role at Microsoft.

As a Critical Environment Technician (CET) in Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, you will maintain the critical infrastructure that keeps our Datacenters up and running. This could include coordinating with supplier/vendors, working with Management to address operational, risk and safety situations, mentoring other CE Technicians, hands-on maintenance of critical environment equipment, responding to onsite incidents, and using telemetry and other platforms to monitor equipment performance and operations.

This role is a 24/7 position with shift assignments during non-standard hours, including evenings, nighttime, weekends, and/or holidays.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as an operations specialist in one major area of CE operations (e.g., electrical, mechanical, controls, generators) and work on advanced tasks independently.
  • Inspect and supervise critical environment-related facility equipment (controls, HVAC, mechanical systems), buildings, and grounds for unsafe or abnormal conditions; escalate per applicable policies and standards.
  • Utilize internal CMMS to track equipment assets and complete work order requests for maintenance.
  • Safely respond to and lead onsite incident response teams for abnormal conditions that impact operations; coordinate with other critical facilities professionals to perform corrective repairs without supervision.
  • Enhance or develop emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to CE operations and incidents.
  • Perform various maintenance types (planned, predictive, corrective) and repairs following MOPs and SOPs for CE equipment; escalate when appropriate.
  • Maintain hands-on understanding of equipment operation and troubleshooting of systems, subsystems, and components within trained disciplines.
  • Provide consultation to lower-level colleagues in troubleshooting systems and problems.
  • Understand, follow, and ensure safety and security requirements (e.g., JHAs, EH&S, toolbox talks) and business processes to perform work safely and reliably in compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Embodies Microsoft culture and values.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent AND mission critical services work/applied learning experience (e.g., data centers, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or related fields) OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a specialized area (e.g., mechanical, electrical, controls) or related field.
  • Ability to work shifts, including non-standard hours that may include evenings, nighttime, weekends, and/or holidays.

Background Check Requirements:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent AND mission critical services experience OR Associate's Degree or technical trade certification (e.g., military, trade school) OR higher-equivalent education AND mission-critical services experience, OR equivalent experience.
