Job Description

At AtkinsRéalis, one of the world's leading providers of environmental professional consulting and support services with offices across Ireland, we are seeking a Senior/Principal Freshwater Ecologist / Hydro-Ecologist for water projects and to address general water use and management issues throughout Ireland. You will be a freshwater ecologist with a good understanding of hydrology and water quality, and the relationships between these elements. Experience as a statistician and/or modeller, manipulating ecological data, is advantageous.

You should understand the freshwater ecological aspects of ecological status as defined by the Water Framework Directive and the measures needed to improve aquatic ecology in line with WFD objectives for 'good status by 2027'. Experience and understanding of impacts from agriculture, wastewater treatment, abstractions, discharges, and impoundments on Ireland's freshwater ecology are required. Knowledge of assessment metrics like the Q and SSRS scoring systems, riverine diatoms, macro and micro-algae, macrophytes, and fisheries, especially salmonids, would be an added advantage.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Educated to at least Degree level (Level 8/9).
  2. Relevant work experience, including in a consultancy environment.
  3. Chartered Scientist, Environmentalist, or Ecologist.
  4. Experience in business development and client engagement.
  5. Proposal and tender writing experience, with success in winning and delivering projects.
  6. Full Irish / EU driving licence.
