About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our team at Zinkworks. You will be working with one of our leading financial services clients to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions.

This role is part of a strategic programme focused on modernizing the client's mainframe capability. You will play a key role in transforming existing functionalities into modern JSON-based services, enabling improved performance, flexibility, and integration across their technology stack.

As a senior member of the team, you'll provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and influence architectural decisions to ensure high-quality delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust and secure Java-based applications.
  • Work with Spring and Spring Batch frameworks to deliver high-performance services.
  • Build and deploy solutions in AWS using Lambdas, EC2, and other cloud-native services.
  • Transform legacy functionalities to support mainframe modernization.
  • Ensure scalability, performance, and reliability across distributed systems.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including architects, testers, and DevOps engineers.
  • Participate in code reviews, provide technical guidance, and mentor junior developers.
  • Support continuous integration and deployment pipelines to ensure efficient delivery.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to root cause analysis.
  • Work in an Agile/Scrum environment, contributing to sprint planning, estimation, and retrospectives.

Required Skills & Experience
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong expertise in Java and the Spring Framework.
  • Hands-on experience with Spring Batch for large-scale data processing.
  • Solid background in AWS services, particularly Lambdas and EC2.
  • Knowledge of Serena3 (or willingness to upskill quickly).
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices.
  • Understanding of relational and non-relational database concepts.
  • Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • This role will require visits to the client site 1 week per month in Galway City

Nice-to-Have Skills
  • Experience with Ansible for automation and configuration management.
  • Familiarity with containerisation technologies like Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Exposure to financial services or highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of security best practices for cloud-native applications.
