We are looking for an experienced finance and economics consultant to provide clients with quality advice to inform investment decisions for the built environment. The role supports a growing team delivering economic and financial business cases, investment strategies and plans, economic research, due diligence, lenders' technical advisory services and value for money/economic impact evaluations. The successful candidate will be part of the Irish Finance & Economics team within the Mobility, Cities and Infrastructure Advisory group, and will be connected to the wider Arup advisory and economics networks globally.
The advisory discipline brings clarity to complex challenges through robust analysis, valuable advice, and tangible solutions. Our diverse skills in geospatial data analytics, finance and economics, and strategy & policy for transport and cities help clients make confident decisions for sustainable and resilient built environments.
Responsibilities- Take primary responsibility for building and running economic and financial models supporting business cases for major infrastructure projects within Ireland, Europe and potentially globally.
- Prepare economic, business and financial analyses for projects to support advice to public and private sector clients.
- Implement public sector business case, economic and financial appraisals and evaluations projects (including Value for Money Reviews) in accordance with local guidance and codes.
- Provide economic, business and financial analysis for projects led by other Arup businesses to explain the business impacts of proposed solutions.
- Contribute to project-level leadership and may supervise junior staff; potential for line management after probation.
- Engage in project delivery across varying sectors, regions and contexts with flexibility, proactive attitude and outcomes focus; demonstrate technical excellence and strong writing/communication skills.
- Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in economics, finance, business, or a related field. A first-level degree with additional qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
- Five or more years of experience in consulting or advisory services within an enterprise structure.
- Flexibility and ability to work to deadlines; objective client focus; strong critical thinking; pride in workmanship; commitment to diversity and inclusion; focus on sustainable outcomes.
- Experience with financial and economic analysis models, including advanced spreadsheet modelling. Some data-analysis skills with languages such as Python are desirable but not required.
- Experience preparing high-quality analytical reports for enterprise leadership and C-Suite level clients; experience with client/enterprise management and leadership communications; excellent written/spoken English.
- Experience preparing government-side business case documents to support approvals and budget allocations; knowledge of Irish Public Spending Code and Infrastructure Guidelines (e.g., TAF, NTA PAG, TII PAG) is desirable.
- Experience performing due diligence for investment, acquisition or lending; understanding of Public Private Partnerships and related risk allocations; UK Green/Magenta Book aligned project experience is beneficial.
- Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality deliverables (analyses, modelling, research, reports, presentations) that add value to client priorities; actively participate in meetings; lead simple advisory mandates with junior support; contribute to multiple concurrent projects; manage deliverables and junior staff; build client relationships; follow Arup's Management System as part of induction.
- Provide timely and quality client advice and respond to requirements; help establish trust with clients.
- Support work winning, client relationship management and proposals; conduct macroeconomic and market research to inform business development and bids; collaborate with other Arup disciplines on multidisciplinary bids.
- Participate in the development of the Finance & Economics team within the Mobility, Cities and Infrastructure Advisory group; share knowledge and seek feedback; contribute to team culture and goals.
