The Opportunity

We now have several opportunities for Senior Lead Engineers across the Transformation and Technology team at EirGrid Group. Creating a culture of continuous improvement that drives technical and process innovation is central to delivery in these roles. The successful candidates will play a key role in driving and supporting transformative change across the team. These roles require innovative engineers who are solution-focused, resilient and motivated, contributing to operational excellence across the transition to a low carbon energy future.

The Teams

The Transformation and Technology Office (CTTO) comprises professionals from engineering, IT, commerce and policy disciplines to help meet targets for adding renewable generation and the electrification of our economy and society.

Future Networks and Offshore Strategic Planning

Team's vision is to plan the power system and market of the future. You will work collaboratively across the organisation and with stakeholders to transform the power system for future generations. Provide expertise to form our vision of the future power system. Contribute to complex projects, including high-profile studies related to the power system to explore evolution to 2050. Improve use of system study tools, including automation and data analytics. Communicate effectively to customers, business, public stakeholders, and senior management via meetings, presentations and reports.

Future Operations Function

Leading the programme for operating the power system in 2030; developing scenarios, options and optimum pathways to realise operational ambition. Design and development of operational systems, tools, system services, standards and policies. Undertaking steady-state and dynamic modelling, supporting online control centre decision support tools. Supporting policy development, project management, and facilitating integration of new technologies and innovations.

Power System Insights and Research Function

Drives Innovation & Research strategy; engages with stakeholders; leads engagement with research and academic institutions; reports to the CRU annually on innovation and research activity; runs the internal Research Forum; identifies key research and innovation areas and ensures resourcing and objectives are met.

About You

Our essential purpose is to transform the power system while maintaining a safe, secure and reliable supply of electricity. We value experts who pursue personal and professional development in a purpose-driven environment. Successful candidates will have some or all of the following:

• an engineering degree with 6+ years relevant experience
• demonstrable knowledge of power system planning and operation with understanding of the electricity industry, environment and context
• experience leading power system analysis using tools (PSS/E, DSA Tools or equivalent) and/or market analysis using tools such as Plexos
• knowledge of wholesale power markets and market arrangements in the SEM, Great Britain and other European countries
• experience leading complex technical projects with multiple stakeholders
• ability to improve processes for efficiency and transparency for technical and non-technical audiences
• strong analysis, judgement and problem-solving skills with decision-making in a changing environment
• excellent organisational and stakeholder management skills, commercial awareness and a track record of delivering results
• strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to influence others
• proven experience mentoring and leading junior team members
• experience leading process improvement, change management and automation of routine tasks, particularly using Python
