This is an in-office position requiring three days per week in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) with flexibility on Mondays and Fridays.

We're seeking a Senior Product Counsel to join our collaborative and fast-paced Legal Team. You'll advise on products, compliance, and marketing initiatives, and support a wide range of responsibilities as Udemy scales globally. You will report to the Associate General Counsel.

What you'll be doing

• Provide strategic counsel to Udemy's product, design, engineering, and marketing teams throughout the product lifecycle, from ideation and development to launch and post-launch operations, balancing innovation with legal and business risks
• Advise on global compliance matters, including consumer protection, privacy, accessibility, and intellectual property, with scalable guidance for international growth
• Partner with marketing teams on campaign reviews, pricing strategies, influencer engagements, brand initiatives, and promotional offers, ensuring alignment with advertising laws, FTC guidance, and global consumer regulations
• Collaborate cross-functionally with teams including support and security to address risk and build compliant user experiences
• Track evolving laws (including AI and digital marketplace regulations) and translate them into actionable product and business guidance
• Lead and manage legal advice on high-impact projects, collaborating with senior leadership to align legal guidance with business goals
• Create scalable frameworks and resources to help teams self-serve while maintaining compliance

About Your Skills

• Communication: Ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly and persuasively, without legalese
• Decision making: Identify practical risks and propose balanced solutions that align risk mitigation with business goals
• Prioritization: Focus on what's most important and urgent, think strategically about scaling legal support, and leverage AI to streamline workflows
• Agility: Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to shifting priorities
• Project management: Experience managing complex, cross-functional matters with high-level stakeholders

What you'll have

• Minimum 8 years of legal experience, primarily in-house advising on product, compliance, and marketing matters
• Excellent communication skills to translate complex legal concepts into practical guidance
• Strong judgment and decision-making in fast-paced environments balancing business and legal risk
• Ability to grasp complex legal and technical concepts and adapt to evolving priorities
• Strong organizational and prioritization abilities with experience managing a high volume of cross-functional matters
• Experience advising on consumer subscription products is a plus
