Who are we
Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for new colleagues to join our roving Emergency, Protection, Assistance and Coordination Team (EMPACT), a multifunctional team of senior Emergency Response Specialists deployable within 72 hours to support DRC Country Offices respond to emergency situations.
We are looking for a highly engaged, flexible and driven emergency advisor to deploy globally with know-how in emergency coordination and DRC emergency response sectors (Protection, Shelter and NFI, WASH, Food Security and Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM)). DRCs EMPACT members need to show independence and determination to bring rapid and timely emergency programming to crises and to support country operations in scale up, redesign and roll out of activities. Roving Emergency Advisors need to promote excellence in their field, promote a standards and rights driven approach to programming and go above and beyond typical requirements in often unstable and pressured environments.
About the job
Your main duties and responsibilities will be:
- Deploy globally for periods of 1 to 3 months to either establish or support programmes of emergency work
- Support the development of DRC programmes globally providing expertise, guidance and leadership
- Ensure that high quality, integrated, and needs-based proposals and programmes are developed and according to DRC’s priorities as identified in its global and country specific strategic planning
- Take the lead on assigned emergency projects
- Contribute to the development and implementation of DRC’s Emergency Preparedness and Response Strategy, taking a lead on the strategic development of emergency programme in country and contributing to our global strategy
About you
To be successful in this role we expect you to have a proven record of emergency response and experiences in one or more priority emergency response sectors and a willingness and desire to work in both high-pressure and unstable environments. All employees should master DRC's core competencies: Communicating, Taking the lead, Collaborating, Striving for excellence and Demonstrating integrity. Moreover, we also expect the following:
Required
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in planning, implementation, and monitoring of activities and projects according to internal and national guidelines, agreements and international standards
- Proven experience working in complex emergency contexts, including provision of technical advice to field teams and programme development with a particular focus on emergency programmes
- A University level degree in relevant subject or relevant technical qualification
- Proven ability to live and work in an unstable, insecure environment
- French, Spanish, or Arabic speakers strongly encouraged to apply
