This exciting, newly created position offers a unique opportunity to join a well-established Childrens Disability Network Team in northwest Dublin. In this role, you will work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team, gaining invaluable exposure to innovative practices and a supportive work environment. Role Purpose As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will provide a high-quality, evidence-based service to children with primary intellectual disabilities, secondary physical disabilities, and/or sensory impairments, always involving their families, carers, and support staff in the care process. The Team is a well-established and very experienced multidisciplinary team. You will work alongside an experienced specialist team of Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Social Workers, Behaviour therapists and Psychologists . Key Responsibilities To provide a quality, evidence -based Speech and Language Therapy service to children with a primary intellectual disability, psycho-social, sensory and physical impairments in consultation with their families, carers and staff. To provide a Speech and Language Therapy service including assessment, intervention, programme planning, monitoring, consultation and/or onward referral services, as appropriate. To prioritise together with the Services Manager in order to optimise the quality, efficacy an equality of the service provided. To maintain a waiting list if/when necessary. To manage a complex clinical caseload, exercising advanced clinical reasoning, in making autonomous decisions and judgements on a daily basis. This involves acting within clinical knowledge base, to prioritise (in consultation with Services Manager), to implement assessment, diagnostic formulation; care planning, intervention and discharge. To assess and recommend appropriate Speech and Language Therapy programs, environmental supports, activities, skill development and Augmentative Alternative Communication taking into account person centred needs, staff/carer needs, environment and available resources. To take responsibility, as required and in consultation with the Service Manager and Speech and Language Therapist Manager for the planning, development and provision of specialist Speech and Language Therapy services within this caseload g. Mental health, Autism, Behaviours that challenge and Appropriate Placements. To contribute to program development and be an active member of the PDS services team. To participate in a multi-disciplinary team, communicating with and working in co-operation with other disciplines. To keep up to date in respect of current trends, developments and best practice in the area of Intellectual Disability, Psycho-social and Speech and Language Therapy. To participate in research projects and other CPD events in the Speech and Language Therapy department as appropriate. Essential Criteria: Degree in clinical speech and language therapy Full CORU registration Hold Dysphagia training Have a minimum of 3 years work experience as a Speech and Language Therapist. Previous Speech and Language Therapy experience working with children with a range of disabilities including physical, sensory, intellectual and autistic spectrum disorder Must be eligible to work in the Republic of Ireland Full Clean Driving license and use of a car Desirable Criteria: Experience of inter/transdisciplinary team working Any relevant post graduate training specific to child disability service Qualification in the management of Feeding, Eating, Drinking, & Swallowing. Specific training and experience in assessment of Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Experience in assessment of children who have a physical and/or sensory disability and/or intellectual disability. Experience of supporting children/young persons with life limiting conditions. Previous experience in a senior post. Experience of completing assessments under the AON process.
