Overview of the job The Workshop, Studio & Facility Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the day-to day operations of Dolmen's workshop and studio, assisting with the fabrication and construction of prototypes, models, and projects. This role focuses on providing practical assistance to designers, graduates, and other team members in using workshop equipment and tools safely, ensuring high-quality finishes, and coordinating with external suppliers for off-site prototype production. Beyond workshop support, the assistant will contribute to the overall management and upkeep of the studio environment, ensuring workspaces are well-organized, properly maintained, and conducive to a high-performance design culture. This includes overseeing general facilities upkeep, assisting with IT related tasks and ensuring digital tools are accessible for seamless project execution. The assistant will also play a key role in maintaining a clean and efficient working environment and will have opportunities to share insights on materials, model making techniques, and processes to support project goals. An important aspect of this role is working collaboratively within a team, offering technical and operational support where needed to ensure smooth project workflows and the successful realization of design concepts. Job description Assist with the creationofproofofprinciplerigs,mock-ups,blockmodels,andprototypeassembly. Support theteam in achieving production-qualityfinishes, includingpainting,sanding, and handfinishing. Collaborate with designers in the fabrication and construction of prototypes, models, and projects. Offer insights and suggestions on materials and model making techniques. Assist in the setup and operation of workshop equipment such as 3D printers (Prusa, Formlabs), lathe, milling machines, bandsaw, pillar drills, etc. Maintain workshop tools and equipment through regular checks, repairs, and servicing, while troubleshooting issues to minimise downtime. Ensure a safe working environment by enforcing safety protocols, providing training on proper tool and equipment use, and responding appropriately to emergencies. Trackinventoryof workshop tools,materials,andsupplies,ensuringproperlabelling,storage,and organisation. Order andsourcenecessary materials,tools,andsupplies whilemaintainingbudgetawareness and tracking expenses. Help maintain a clean, organised, and efficient workshop and studio space. Supportstudiosetup, reconfigurations,andeventpreparation,includingworkstationsetup, furniture moves,and logistics. Provideadministrativesupportsuchasfiling, organisingdocuments,andpreparingmeeting spaces. Work closely with designers, graduates, and other team members to ensure smooth workflows. Manage and track IT assets, support workstation setup, and liaise with our external IT contractor on technical needs. Report any maintenance or facility-related issues to the appropriate team members.
