The School comprises the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology, Department of Health Psychology, Data Science Centre, Healthcare Outcomes Research Centre, Institute of Global Surgery, Converge, the SPHeRE Programme, and the Cameron Scholars Programme. It includes over 100 academic, research and professional staff, as well as 42 PhD scholars. Population health scientists and researchers at RCSI have an impressive track record undertaking impactful multidisciplinary research and collaborating with an extensive network of international and national partners. The aims of the School of Population Health are to undertake multidisciplinary research that guides, shapes and monitors the crucial decisions in population health; to deliver comprehensive educational programmes that meet the workforce and societal needs of today and the innovative needs of the future; and to participate in synergistic networks and collaborations that strengthen infrastructure, capacity and financing for education and research. Reflecting the breadth of population health science, we adopt a balanced, multi-disciplinary approach, connecting and contributing to developments in population health, nationally and internationally. The key enabler in delivering our ambitious programme of growth is the School's multidisciplinary team of academics, researchers, scholars and support staff. Objective of this post: The principal objective of the post is to provide teaching, coordination and examining of RCSI's undergraduate medical teaching programmes, postgraduate MSc, and to support the departmental research agenda, in the area of Public Health, Epidemiology and Evidence-Based Health for a twelve-month period. RCSI is seeking a professional who is passionate about teaching, who would like to contribute to, and gain experience, working as an academic in a multicultural environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate energy, initiative and excellent organisation and communication skills. The post-holder, who will be based in the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology, School of Population Health, will develop, teach and help coordinate Public Health Epidemiology teaching and Evidence-Based Health teaching. Specific Responsibilities include: Contribute to the undergraduate teaching programme in the Direct Entry and Graduate Entry Medicine Programmes through: delivery of lectures in areas appropriate to the needs of the EBH/PHE team taking on a teaching coordination role and acting as lead liaison between students and staff o revision, delivery and marking of team projects setting and coordinating both in-module and end of module exam questions as required Contribute to the development of the curriculum, new teaching programmes, teaching modalities and modes of assessment Contribute to the departmental research agenda as required by the Head of Department Liaise with and provide support to colleagues in the RCSI Schools and across the RCSI international campus in Bahrain, as required Undergo programmes of training and development, as may be required Represent the best interests of the Department and RCSI at all times Contribute to quality assurance/quality improvement and accreditation of existing modules Perform such other related duties as may be required Person Specification Essential: A PhD or equivalent in an area relevant to public health and epidemiology Strong teaching interest and skill set, as evidenced by experience of, a proven track record in, and enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching and assessment in public health, epidemiology or evidence-based health Effective communication style appropriate to audience and situation Excellent time-management skills in order to effectively progress across all three domains of responsibilities (teaching, research and service) Able to build and maintain strong working relationships - actively collaborating with colleagues Deadline-oriented, while delivering high quality teaching and projects Person Specification Desirable: Master's or MSc in Public Health or Epidemiology (or equivalent) Strong commitment to own personal and professional development Experience in curriculum design Strong interest and experience with blended learning delivery and digitally-enhanced teaching tools Proven ability for both independent and team work Excellent research methods knowledge and skills The successful candidate's core values and behaviours should demonstrate: RCSI General Competencies: student and customer service, scholarship and excellence, collegiality and professionalism, innovation and flexibility, planning and organising.
