Head of Finance Ballina Credit Union Job Title:Head of Finance Reporting to:CEO Credit Union Background: Formed in 1968 Ballina Credit Union has proudly grown to over €110 million in asset size. Through our dedicated team, we proudly serve over 17,000 members and operate from our office in Ballina Co. Mayo. Role Overview: With Ballina Credit Union's continued growth, we are currently recruiting for a Head of Finance to join our credit union. Reporting to the CEO/ Board of Directors, this role will be a full-time permanent position based in our Ballina office. The Head of Finance will be a qualified Accountant and be part of the Senior Management Team. The Head of Finance will have a strategically focused role within the credit union and the responsibility for ensuring the credit union's financial growth and stability. The role will have accountability and oversight for the finance function and will deliver timely and accurate financial reporting. The Head of Finance will have responsibility for measuring and reporting on the credit union's financial performance, researching and reporting on potential products to ensure the credit union's continued success, and will advise the CEO/Board of Directors on the financial strategy of the credit union. The credit union operates between Monday to Saturday. Key Areas of Responsibility: Leadership: Attend Board and Committee meetings, as requested by the CEO and Board, challenge appropriately, and support the leadership on any areas of concern. Lead the design and implementation of Credit Union finance policies. Preparation of the annual financial statements and first point of contact for the interim and annual audit process. Work in conjunction with the credit union's Risk, Compliance, and Audit functions to ensure the highest standards are implemented and maintained across the credit union. Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Contribute to setting the tone from the top to maintain and enhance the Credit Unions strong and inclusive culture Financial Management: Monitor, manage, and enhance financial controls through the implementation and embedding of an integrated accounting software package. Oversee the preparation of the monthly management accounts. Overall responsibility for the annual budget process including cash flow projections. Report to the Board of Directors on credit union financial performance. Complete statistical analysis, statutory returns, and regulatory reporting. Review of investments to ensure sufficient liquidity, including portfolio reporting and decision-making with the CEO, Investment Committee, Board, and external investment advisory firm. Ensure that the relevant Individual Accountability Framework responsibilities are met in line with regulatory requirements Manage the office back-office processing to ensure all tasks are performed in accordance with all internal and regulatory frameworks.A strong understanding of credit union regulations and credit union ethos is an advantage. Appropriate numeracy skills and the ability to monitor and manage budgets. Identify and manage risks including financial risks, market, credit, and operational risks. Develop and monitor KPIs. Strategic Ability: Support the design and delivery of strategic financial plans. Support the CEO in the successful implementation of the credit union's strategic plan. Recommend actions on strategic issues, including services to Members Undertake cost/benefit analyses for capital investments and new products/services. Participate in decision making, as a key member of the Management Team. This role is subject to the Central Bank of Ireland Fitness & Probity Regime Assessment and is a Pre-Approved Control Function. As a control function, the successful candidate will be accountable for ensuring that the relevant Individual Accountability Framework responsibilities are met in line with regulatory requirements. Minimum qualifications required: Must hold a professional accounting qualification. A Central Bank Minimum Competency Qualification, e.g., QFA and/or other suitable qualification in financial services, credit unions, management, business, and possibly others such as IT, accountancy, law, finance, risk, and compliance is desirable. Third-level degree (minimum level 8) in Business, Finance or Accounting is desirable. Minimum 5 years post-qualified experience. Competencies: Organised with strong attention to detail Outstanding communication skills (listening, oral and written) Proven ability to lead a project from initiation to completion Work closely and flexibly with other Management Team members Integrity, honesty and confidentiality Experience of managing and developing a team in an accountancy/finance environment. An understanding of credit unions and sectoral challenges would be an advantage. Excellent IT skills, for example, MS Excel, Word, and accounting software. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications & experience.
