The Role
The EHS Process Safety Engineer/Specialist will work closely with the EHS Safety Manager and other technical managers/engineers to drive improvements in existing EHS management systems, including compliance for the Cork site under the COMAH and Seveso regulations, as well as providing technical expertise as required. Responsibility for Process Safety includes functional safety, process safety programs (HAZOPS, LOPA, etc.), and process safety KPIs.
The EHS Process Safety Engineer/Specialist is responsible for carrying out activities and programs to ensure compliance with ATEX, High Risk Work programs including local and Corporate EHS process safety requirements. There will be a requirement to support the DGSA site requirements. The EHS Engineer/Specialist is responsible for ensuring compliance with the site's ISO 45001 management system, including local and Corporate EHS management programs.
The EHS Engineer/Specialist will lead/interact with regulatory bodies on regulatory compliance programs and future change requirements as needed.
The EHS Engineer/Specialist will measure, monitor, and evaluate site Health and Safety performance, according to established programs and drive continuous improvement.
This role offers autonomy and ownership for assigned projects/areas/programs, whilst having the support of an experienced EHS Team.
Duties:
1. In conjunction with Process Safety Protocols, lead EHS assessment/approval of all process and equipment changes for the operation.
2. Provide EHS support to a dedicated site Operation to ensure compliance with Lower Tier SEVESO and ATEX requirements.
3. Interpret all regulatory changes and provide guidance and direction to Cork site operations to ensure full compliance with Health and Safety legislation, IE Licensing, and ISO 45001/ISO 14001 Standards.
4. Maintain relationships with the EHS team, Operational Area Managers, and Functional Managers to develop and implement EHS strategies.
5. EHS Business partner for core operations.
6. Support digitization program for EHS systems – High risk work, Chemical management, etc.
7. Work closely with Regulatory Authorities, external and internal key stakeholders, and the local management team.
8. Seek out opportunities to continuously improve a proactive EHS operating culture.
9. Involvement in site and EHS Goals & Objectives, Corporate Responsibility/ Sustainability goals.
10. H&S Management Systems - Lead Audits and Inspections, compile EHS metrics and KPIs data, trending for Corporate EHS and site Management.
Who You Are
1. Essential: Degree/Diploma in Process Safety and a recognized Degree/Diploma in H&S or suitable engineering/science discipline.
2. Desirable: Experience in COMAH and chemical management systems including Air Quality management programs and/or ergonomic industry design principles (machinery/equipment, etc.).
3. 7 years' experience in an EHS position.
4. Involvement in major infrastructural projects from contractor management - compliant operation.
5. Strong experience in regulatory interactions on regulatory licensing applications and liaisons.
6. Demonstrated project management, program management, and multi-tasking ability in large industry.
7. Specialist in H&S legislation and best practice in large scale industry.
8. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
9. Excellent technical report writing skills.
10. Ability to prioritize work and work independently on technical/regulatory requirements.
11. Ability to work to meet scheduled timelines.
12. Flexible and constructive approach to problem solving.

1. Critical: Thorough understanding of relevant H&S guidance, directives, and processes in regulated industry. Ability to motivate and influence others to achieve regulatory objectives; willingness to take ownership of issues and win buy-in of others. Minimum 7 years' experience.
2. Essential: Mature judgment and decision-making ability. Flexible approach to work, including availability. Highly committed, with ability to combine innovation with management of day-to-day operations. Leads and works well within a team environment. High energy levels with a passion for EHS.
3. Desirable: Technical ability with digital systems.
