Irish Language Officer Our client, a respected public sector body with multiple campuses across the South-West, provides a broad range of services and programmes across education, research, and community engagement. Department: Corporate Services Reporting to: Chief Corporate Officer (initially) Location: Kerry or Cork Campus  Contract: 6-Month Temporary, Whole-time (35 hours per week) Rate of Pay: €30 per hour Annual Leave: 27 days per annum (pro-rated) Overview of the Role: Our client is seeking a temporary Irish Language Officer for a 6-month period to promote, support, and enhance the use of the Irish language across all campuses. The successful candidate will monitor compliance with relevant legislative requirements, oversee implementation of the organisation’s Irish Language Scheme, and work with staff and students to strengthen the visibility and use of Irish within the organisation. This role is ideal for a proactive individual with excellent Irish language skills, strong communication abilities, and a passion for cultural engagement and compliance. Key Responsibilities: Language Planning and Policy Support and coordinate Irish language initiatives among staff and students. Develop and implement an operational plan for the promotion of the Irish language. Monitor and record compliance with Irish language legislation and the organisation’s Irish Language Scheme. Collect, analyse, and report on compliance data. Support for Organisational Functions Advise departments on meeting legislative and policy obligations. Collaborate across teams to ensure consistent standards in Irish language use. Translate or review short texts (e.g., speeches, signage, press releases) and manage larger translation projects. Promotion of Irish Language and Culture Promote and encourage Irish language use among staff and students. Partner with student groups, societies, and staff representatives to strengthen Irish language initiatives. Support academic and cultural activities related to the Irish language. Build a network and community of Irish language speakers and learners. Stakeholder Engagement Develop and maintain relationships with government agencies, community groups, and Irish language organisations. Engage with arts, culture, and media partners to promote Irish language visibility. Foster collaboration with Gaeltacht communities and national bodies. Essential Requirements: Excellent written and spoken Irish. Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office – Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams). Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Proven report-writing and communication skills. Commitment to the Irish language and culture. Excellent organisational and time-management skills. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate and engage others. Professional discretion, tact, and sound judgment. Adaptability and a willingness to learn new skills. Desirable Requirements: Minimum of two years’ relevant experience. Level 8 degree or higher, ideally with Irish as a final-year subject. Qualification and/or experience in Irish language translation. Understanding of Irish language structures, legislation, and funding supports. Experience drafting policies, reports, or guidelines. Knowledge of the public sector or higher education environment. For you: This is a 6-month temporary contract offering €30 per hour. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support language or cultural events.
