About the Role We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Women’s Health Nurse to join our team. This is a new and specialist role designed to provide gender-specific healthcare and advocacy for women experiencing homelessness. Many women in our services face multiple barriers to care, including experiences of trauma, domestic violence, addiction, and complex mental and physical health needs.
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Working Hours and Location: 37.5 hours a week, Monday-Friday. Office-based in Ushers Island Facility, but will require some travel between the Dublin Simon Community services within Dublin.
The nurse will work as part of the primary care nursing team in DSC. The primary care nursing team provide on-site nursing care to people experiencing homelessness to improve their quality of life and refer them to external medical or mental health services. The aim of primary care is to reduce barriers to healthcare for homeless clients through on-site nursing intervention, advocacy and liaising with external services. As an advocate for some of the most vulnerable members of our community, you will be at the forefront of delivering essential healthcare services, supporting patients through their recovery journeys, and helping to reduce barriers to healthcare for homeless clients. You will be part of a comprehensive nursing team that is dedicated to improving health outcomes for people experiencing homelessness. You will work closely with your primary care team and the wider inclusion health community, liaising with external services such as SafetyNet, MQI & hospital-based inclusion health teams.
Role Responsibilities
Work as part of the Primary Care Nursing Team, reporting directly to the CNM2 and contributing to team meetings, case reviews, and service planning.
Carry out holistic nursing assessments to identify women’s physical, mental, and reproductive health needs.
Develop and implement individualised nursing care plans and maintain a caseload in line with service needs.
Provide direct nursing care in homeless accommodation, and outreach settings, including: routine observations and chronic disease management and medication management in community settings by liaising with prescribers and pharmacies.
Sexual health screening (in service or via external service).
Wound care (with training and support as needed, there is a TVN on our team).
Responding to emergencies, including overdoses (naloxone training provided).
Re-engage women with healthcare through advocacy, trust-building, and trauma-informed practice.
Liaise with MQI Women’s Service, domestic violence supports, and specialist women’s health providers.
Work collaboratively with GPs in the Homeless Network, hospital inclusion health teams, and community services.
Support clients in their recovery journey and adopt a harm reduction approach to care.
Share clear, accurate, and timely updates with colleagues, key workers, and healthcare partners to ensure effective communication and continuity of care.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with key healthcare providers.
Advocate for women with external services to ensure equitable access to healthcare and support.
Contribute to the development of women’s health initiatives and health promotion campaigns within Dublin Simon Community.
Complete clinical documentation, maintain accurate case notes, and ensure compliance with governance and professional standards.
Participate in quality and safety initiatives, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
Work within professional scope of practice and in line with organisational policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Registered Nurse with NMBI.
Evidence of PIN renewal with NMBI for current year.
Willingness to work with people experiencing homelessness and addiction.
Minimum 2 years post graduate experience.
Experience working with marginalised groups.
Experience in addiction / mental health / infectious diseases.
Further education in addiction studies / women/u2019s health / trauma.
