Permanent Whole Time Post UCC wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Medical Microbiology. Reporting to the Head of Department of Pathology, UCC, and working closely with the Professor of Medical Microbiology, the appointee will fulfil the role of Lecturer for the purposes of delivering pathology teaching and learning, particularly - but not exclusively - the medical microbiology component, for the Department of Pathology, UCC. Additionally, assessment, course content supervision and other academic-related activities integral to pathology/ medical microbiology will form part of this post. The post-holder shall teach and examine, establish / maintain a competitive Microbiology / Pathology research programme, undertake administrative duties and carry out other duties appropriate to the post, in line with departmental objectives, under the general direction of the Head of the Department of Pathology. The Department of Pathology is a member of the School of Medicine within the College of Medicine and Health at University College Cork. The Department teaches in the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry, and in the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science. The department also contributes to the Biomedical Science degree programme which is jointly delivered by UCC and Munster Technological University. The Department has research and teaching facilities in the Clinical Sciences Building, Cork University Hospital. Research strengths within the Department include Cancer, Molecular Pathology, Medical Microbiology, Medical Genetics and Immunology. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate the potential to develop high-impact, internationally recognised research programmes that may intersect with ongoing Departmental interests and/or research within the APC Microbiome Institute or Cancer Research @UCC Candidates should demonstrate how they could be competitive for national and international research funding calls for example from Research Ireland, the Health Research Board and the European Research Council. Salary placement on appointment will be in accordance with public sector pay policy.
