Dublin, Ireland Meta Full time

Summary

Meta is seeking a Content Lawyer to join its global Content and Integrity team, focusing on the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region. This role involves providing legal support to cross functional internal teams for cutting‑edge and complex content and integrity legal issues and projects. The EMEA Content and Integrity Regulatory Legal team provides legal advice on content/integrity regulatory requirements, especially the UK Online Safety Act (OSA), the Digital Services Act (DSA), the Irish Online Safety and Media Regulation Act (OSMRA), and also the Middle East and Africa region, across Meta’s family of apps, as well as AI at Meta. The role focuses on legal advice relating to content moderation and reporting channels across the EMEA region. The role requires expertise in content moderation, intermediary liability, and managing legal systems at scale with efficiency. It will require reviewing content flagged via various legal reporting channels, including reports from users, trusted partners/flaggers, regulatory bodies, or law enforcement. It will require translating regulatory requirements to cross functional teams and analyzing and managing mitigations and remediations, across a wide variety of product areas, as well as supporting regulatory engagement and submissions. You’ll be an experienced, motivated content/integrity or regulatory compliance lawyer, with comprehensive knowledge of the evolving global content regulatory landscape, impacting user‑generated content as well as advertising and a comprehensive understanding of processes at scale. Alternatively, experience gained in another heavily regulated area will be considered. You will work closely with other legal teams and cross‑functionally (including e.g. Engineering, Operations, Policy), as well as liaise externally and should use initiative in identifying solutions and connecting the dots in our large and complex organisation. The role requires good judgment, work ethic, and a keen interest in learning about new technologies and areas of the law. This is a great opportunity to join a growing legal team and to work on novel issues in a fast‑paced environment.

Required Skills

Counsel, EMEA Content and Integrity Regulatory Legal Responsibilities:

1. Supporting regulatory engagement and submissions, including drafting
2. Advise and support Meta’s content and integrity regulatory and product teams in preparing for and responding to content and integrity regulation in EMEA
3. Counsel cross‑functional teams on implementation options, legal risk and efficient processes, across Meta’s family of products
4. Support and help efficiently resolve escalations involving content/integrity, including legal takedown requests and policy and press inquiries
5. Provide legal advice on intermediary liability
6. Build relationships and interface closely with a broad set of Legal, Engineering, Operations, Data, Policy and subject matter experts
7. Supervise and direct outside counsel on select requests

Minimum Qualifications

1. Meta requires all employed attorneys to have a law degree or equivalent certificate to permit the practice of law and be appropriately licensed and authorized to practice law for the company in their assigned work location. Unless prohibited under local law, an attorney must hold a current practicing certificate (including where required from the relevant authority in the jurisdiction of the assigned work location) or the local law equivalent bar registration or license as may be applicable.
2. 3-4 years post‑qualification experience qualified lawyer.
3. In‑house or law firm experience advising a heavily regulated industry, translating from regulatory requirements to cross‑functional stakeholders.
4. Comprehensive understanding and experience of content regulation, ideally the UK OSA, DSA and the OSMRA (at least one of these) and concept of intermediary liability under the E‑Commerce Directive.
5. Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative, fast‑paced environment and make sound judgments under tight deadlines.
6. Fluent in English (and fluent in another language is a plus).

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience assessing and advising upon broad set of regulation governing content/integrity issues (including OSA, DSA, OSMRA and ideally also in the Middle East/ Africa region), across a range of topics.
2. Experience advising on measures at scale and operational efficiency.
