We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Nurse / Breeding Programme Assistant to join a well-known not-for-profit organisation based here in Cork. Reporting to the CEO, this role is responsible for supporting the running of the breeding programme by coordinating volunteers and actively supporting with recruitment and training for volunteers. This is a full-time, permanent position that requires local and national travel, and will suit someone with a background in dog handling, veterinary nursing or animal welfare.
Hours: 37.5 with flexibility to work weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Support the day-to-day running of the breeding programme, including assisting with matings, pregnant stock, pups, and placement administration.
2. Facilitate recruitment processes for breeding programme volunteers.
3. Support with placement of stock on the programme.
4. Management of necessary veterinary health records, check-ups and treatments.
5. Liaise with puppy raisers, communicate breeding outcomes, and provide updates to volunteers and private breeders.
6. Investigate and address complaints regarding breeding dogs and take appropriate action with support of the supervisor.
7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for the breeding colony and report monthly key metrics.
8. Be available to travel nationally and internationally to collect puppies and dogs.
9. Liaise with Technical, Breeding, Client Services and Puppy Raising teams around health and welfare of dogs, providing advice and assistance as needed.
Requirements:
1. Experience in veterinary nursing and registered with the Veterinary Council of Ireland.
2. Certificate in Animal Welfare, Dog Handling or equivalent.
3. Demonstrated ability in dog handling/training.
4. Proven record for consistently meeting and exceeding goals and delivering excellent performance.
5. Excellent planning, organisational and administrative skills.
6. Proven interpersonal and communication skills, ability to communicate effectively with volunteers and external stakeholders.
7. Full clean driving licence is essential.
