Title of Position:Civil Design Engineer Salary: €71,072 - €91,100 Background This Civil Design Engineer will be required to work as a member of the public transport engineering design team responsible for designing and coordinating design related and planning activities of light rail, metro and related transit and transport projects (particularly key capital projects such as Luas Finglas and Luas Lucan). Specifically, the Utilities section of the Engineering Design department is responsible for the design and undertaking of utilities works including water, sewerage, communications, power, and gas as part of the planning and delivery of public transport schemes. Reporting to the Utilities Manager and / or the project managers as required, this person will be required to undertake and manage concept, preliminary and detailed design work to tight deadlines and be capable of operating with minimal supervision. Alongside this, he/she will be expected to manage and coordinate the advice, design and input from all relevant disciplines (internal and external) including drainage, structures, survey, rolling stock, utilities, architecture, traffic, transport planning, environment, archaeology etc. - and stakeholders. Experience of the health and safety requirements of designers and their implementation in the design and subsequent stages of the projects is required ROLE, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Production of validated, competent utilities engineering design at concept, preliminary and detail design stages Managing and working with external stakeholders (Utility and Service Providers, Local Authorities etc.) developing and agreeing sound engineering design solutions to resolve design coordination conflicts. Coordination of design and deliverables from other design disciplines involved. Assisting in achieving project commitments, preparing update reports on programme, risk and quality as required. Prepare and present reports on design critical issues for internal/external stakeholders. Provision of all relevant design documentation, in line with applicable standards. Ensuring collaboration across teams and project stakeholders. Managing/motivating allocated resources (direct/indirect including consultants), to include setting targets and assigning duties to team members, as may be required. Provide technical guidance and supervision, including design reviews and approvals, to less senior members of the design team, including engineers and technicians. Liaison with third parties, particularly utilities companies, to achieve project goals. Ensuring the incorporation of all necessary health and safety elements into the design. Undertaking such tasks, activities or other duties as may be required or assigned as appropriate to the grade. All of the divisions within TII have inter-dependent responsibilities and close cooperation and teamwork is required Note: The functions and responsibilities assigned to this position are based on the current stated role and may be changed from time to time. The person appointed will be required to demonstrate the flexibility necessary to fulfil other roles and responsibilities at a similar grade within TII and may be assigned to other such roles as business needs arise. Education & Experience Degreeorthirdlevelqualification(NFQLevel8orequivalent)incivilengineering. Minimumof fiveyearspostgraduateexperience in civil engineering design (roads, drainage, utilities)inanengineering design office environment Bea Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland, or beprofessionally registered atan equivalent level with an equivalent organisation, or be in a position to attain registrationwithintwoyearsfromappointmenttotheposition Proficiency and proven work experience in latest release of MicroStation (desirable) or AutoCAD and BIM applications Experienceinmanagementoftheplanning,designanddeliveryofmajorpublictransport projects (light rail experience desirable but not essential) Strongunderstandingandexperienceintheareaofstatutoryplanning proceduresand processesforlargescaleinfrastructureprojects Strongunderstandingandexperienceinsustainabilitypoliciesandprinciplesandtheirapplication in the design of publictransport infrastructure Highlyeffectivecommunicationskills(verbalandwritten),withtheabilitytowriteand reviewreports andpresent oncritical issuesto design andproject teammembers, externalconsultantsandotherstakeholders The ability to manage, lead and motivate others to deliver objectives Strong understanding of utilities design requirements and standards StrongunderstandingandworkingknowledgeofTIIPublications,DMRBandrelatedcodes,specificationsandstandards Demonstrable aptitude to liaise technically and coordinate design with all stakeholders Knowledge and experience of design risk assessment requirements and procedures Practical experience of producing contract documentation to the highest standards Experience of quality control as a part of a quality assurance regime Understandingofprocurementprocessesandthereviewandevaluationoftender documentation FluencyintheEnglishlanguage,bothwrittenandoral Currently hold and maintain a full driving licence.
