About the Role

North Midlands Credit Union is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Loans Officer to join our Lending Department on a 12 month fixed term contract. Reporting directly to the Head of Lending, the successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting day-to-day loan operations, engaging with members and ensuring the smooth and efficient handling of loan applications from initial query to underwriting. This position involves daily interaction with our valued members, so requires exceptional communication skills, a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service, a proactive approach to member support and a thorough understanding of lending procedures.

Key responsibilities:

Loan Approval and Administration

- Working with and under the supervision of the Credit Officer or as delegated.
- Ensure that the Credit Union lending policy is implemented in an efficient and effective manner.
- Deal efficiently and courteously with members in a confidential, discreet and sensitive manner and exercise judgement and care in the approval and recommendation of loans.
- Provide expert, tailored lending advice based on each member's needs.
- Act as the first point of contact for loan queries; Take and assess loan applications across the Credit Union's full range of loan products, from members in person, over the telephone, online and through other communication channels in line with North Midlands Credit Union's policies and procedures.
- Conduct thorough financial assessments to determine suitable options.
- Maintain CRM records and manage pipeline activity efficiently.
- Deal with other member queries as they arise.
- Maintain fast turnaround times while ensuring compliance with AML and lending policies.
- Collaborate with marketing and business development to enhance member offerings.
- Contribute to departmental meetings and help shape a member-centred lending service.

- Other duties delegated to you by the Management or Supervisory staff from time to time.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

- 3-5 years personal lending experience in a financial institution
- Self-motivated with a "Right First-Time" ethos
- Organised and capable of prioritising tasks effectively
- Skilled in engaging with members and understanding their financial needs
- Minimum APA qualification (QFA Loans module + QFA Regulation module) or full QFA is desirable
- Strong Credit lending and underwriting experience is essential
- Excellent organisational skills with demonstrable ability to develop and enhance work practices.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of the wider lending team
- Full clean driving licence and own transport essential
