About the Devonshire Group
The Devonshire Group encompasses a significant number of businesses throughout the UK and Ireland, employing over 1,300 people and 170 volunteers. Our locations include the Chatsworth Estate in Derbyshire, the Bolton Abbey Estate in North Yorkshire, the Lismore Estate in County Waterford, and the Compton Estate in Sussex. The Group also has some charitable interests.
Our commercial activities include heritage attractions, retail outlets, catering, events, restaurants and luxury accommodation, a significant let estate comprising residential, agricultural and commercial assets; in-hand farming and forestry operations, as well as notable property development and property investment projects nationwide. Our estates also include significant let mineral operations and we are hosts for a number of renewable energy projects including biomass and solar PV.
Lismore Castle, rising from the banks of the Blackwater River and the surrounding countryside of the Blackwater Valley, is the Irish home to the Devonshire family, now a sought-after, exclusive use residence. Dating from 1170, it comprises Lismore Castle Gardens, a 7 acre garden within the outer defensive castle walls, as well as Lismore Castle Arts, a not for profit initiative founded in 2005 and committed to the presentation and promotion of contemporary visual art in Ireland.
The Role
You'll play a pivotal role in providing financial support and insight, ensuring accurate reporting, robust forecasting and effective performance monitoring for the Lismore estate. The Management Accountant will be responsible for:
- Preparing monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).
- Supporting budgeting and forecasting processes, and analysing variances.
- Producing KPIs and performance reports and identifying risks and opportunities.
- Assisting with statutory accounts, tax computations and government reporting.
- Supporting finance systems and process improvements.
- Overseeing and approving payroll, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
- Providing ad hoc analysis and insight to support strategic decisions.
The Candidate
- Fully qualified accountant (CIMA preferred) with experience in a similar role.
- Experience in the leisure, hospitality or tourism sector is advantageous.
- Commercially focused, with strong financial reporting and analytical skills.
- Able to collaborate effectively within a group structure and build strong intercompany relationships.
- Proficient in advanced MS Excel (e.g. pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, financial modelling). Sage experience is desirable.
- Strong communication skills - able to explain finance to non-finance colleagues.
- Highly organised, detail focused and capable of managing multiple priorities.
- A self-starter who enjoys working both independently and collaboratively.
- Familiarity with payroll legislation and compliance (desirable but not essential).
The role will be based at Lismore Castle on the beautiful banks of the Blackwater River, County Waterford, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Our core values include "Being Inclusive" and we particularly welcome applications from disabled and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates who are currently under-represented. We also welcome applicants from the LGBTQ+ community. Flexible ways of working will always be considered.
