Credit Controller - Job Description We are seeking an experienced and professional Credit Controller to support the effective implementation of credit control policies and procedures. This role is integral to delivering a high-quality service to members while minimising arrears and financial risk to the organisation. The Credit Controller will play a key role within the credit control team, working under the direction of management to implement credit control strategies, manage risk, and ensure regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will be proactive, member-focused, and committed to maintaining strong relationships while ensuring financial integrity. Key Responsibilities Provide regular updates on accounts at all stages of the credit control process. Liaise with debt collection agents and legal representatives as required. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on internal systems. Ensure a thorough understanding and application of credit control policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, regulatory, and organisational requirements. Monitor the total loan book, follow up on missed repayments or no-shows, and take action within delegated limits. Support members in arrears to manage their accounts effectively. Negotiate and monitor repayment plans in line with agreed policies. Prepare and forward cases for legal action and attend court hearings when required. Support and attend credit control committee meetings as directed. Assist in the preparation of reports and data for committee or board meetings. Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of credit control processes and procedures. Provide feedback on lending performance to improve loan quality and reduce arrears. Manage member relationships in arrears and support complaint resolution. Assist with the implementation and monitoring of controls as set by Risk Management, Compliance, and Internal Audit functions. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: A minimum of 5 years' experience in credit control, preferably within a credit union or similar financial environment. APA (Loans) qualification is essential; QFA is desirable. Qualified or part-qualified in a relevant financial qualification is advantageous. Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational, numeracy, and analytical skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with accuracy and accountability. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and support members. A proactive attitude with a focus on continuous improvement and team collaboration.
