Purpose of the Role The post holder will be a senior strategic and operational support for the Infection Prevention and Control agenda across Children's Health Ireland. They will be a clinical expert in the field of IPC. They will practice at an advanced clinical level and exercise high levels of judgement, discretion and decision-making. The post holder will work with a high level of autonomy, acting as a representative for Children's Health Ireland on external group/advisory bodies as required. Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition: (i) Are registered, or are eligible for registration, in the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnimhseachais na hireann). AND (ii) Must have at least 7 years post registration experience of which 3 must be in the specialty of infection prevention & control at a minimum of CNM 2/Clinical Nurse Specialist 2 or equivalent in the acute healthcare environment. (It is desirable that this experience is in the area of paediatrics.) AND (iii) Have successfully completed a post registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider, which verifies that the applicant has achieved a National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 8 or higher award maintained by Quality & Qualifications of Ireland (QQI) or can provide written evidence from the Higher Education Institute that they have achieved the number of ECTS credits equivalent to a Level 8 or higher in Infection Prevention & Control AND (iv) Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development. AND (b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and clinical, leadership, managerial and administrative capacity for the proper discharge of the duties of the office. 2. Annual Registration (i) On appointment, Practitioners must maintain live annual registration in the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnimhseachais na hireann). And (ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with NMBI to CHI 3. Health Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. 4. Character Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
