Our client is a small charity seeking to appoint a Financial Controller to a senior leadership position reporting directly to the CEO and Director of Operations. This pivotal role will contribute significantly to the organisation's financial health, governance, and accountability, with responsibilities spanning both strategic direction and the effective management of day-to-day financial operations.
Role Responsibilities
1. Deliver monthly management accounts and financial reports to the CEO, Director of Operations, and Board of Directors.
2. Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the Director of Operations.
3. Ensure all financial practices and reports align with regulatory standards and best practices.
4. Administer monthly payroll, ensuring full legal compliance.
5. Prepare and submit PAYE and other employer returns to Revenue on time.
6. Coordinate the annual statutory audit and liaise with external auditors.
7. Maintain the organisation's risk register and present updates to the Board.
8. Manage filings with CRO, CRA, and RBO.
9. Promote high governance standards through transparent financial reporting.
10. Develop and review internal financial and governance policies regularly.
11. Work with external advisors to ensure policies remain current.
12. Oversee insurance renewals and coverage needs.
13. Manage financial aspects of grant applications and reporting, ensuring compliance.
14. Support project leads in grant-related spending monitoring.
15. Participate in Board meetings, Finance & Audit Committee sessions, and strategic planning.
16. Contribute to organisational growth and strategic initiatives.
Candidate Requirements:
1. Recognised professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CPA, CIMA).
2. Minimum 3 years' experience in a senior finance role within the not-for-profit or charity sector.
3. Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.
4. Leadership skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
5. Proficiency in accounting and payroll software, with advanced Excel skills.
6. Excellent communication skills, including report writing and presenting to senior stakeholders.
