We are seeking an experienced Power Systems Engineer to play a critical role in designing and modeling electrical transmission and distribution infrastructure. In this position, you will be responsible for conducting technical analyses, modeling power system performance, and providing recommendations to optimize the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our power systems.

As a Power Systems Specialist you will focus on assessing the medium to long-term impact of load profiles on our network. The primary objective is to identify solutions and technologies which can be utilized to address any power issues.

You will be involved from the early planning (pre-design) stages to develop, review, improve and approve power architecture typologies and you will be leading the development of protection coordination studies during the execution phases.

If you have the passion, necessary skills and experience to excel or grow as a Power Systems Specialist or if you want to learn more about the role, we encourage you to apply.

Key job responsibilities

2. Develop and maintain accurate models of the electrical transmission and distribution network, incorporating the latest system changes and upgrades.
3. Analyze system performance data to identify potential issues and bottlenecks, and propose solutions to improve system reliability and capacity.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including substation design, operations, and planning, to ensure seamless integration of power system enhancements.
5. Oversee third-party vendors to ensure quality and integration of power system studies into main projects.
6. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes that may impact power system design and operation.
7. Provide technical guidance and training to junior members of the team.
8. Participate in the development of technical standards, policies, and procedures for the organization.

A day in the life
Delivering in this role is all about Amazon's Day 1 culture and operating model that puts the customer at the center of everything we do. You will be responsible for taking designs from concept to the construction document set. Defining critical equipment specifications and approving technical equipment submittals you will indirectly support construction and be a part of the process from site selection review through commissioning and ultimately turnover. Being relied on as a subject matter expert in the electrical engineering field, we highly support continued learning opportunities and focus on continued employee development.

About the team
As the Power Engineering Team, we're responsible for designing the medium and high-voltage substations for Amazon's new data centers across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Our role is to understand the technical requirements of both the local utilities we connect to and the data centers we supply. We work closely with internal and external stakeholders to gather information on power sources and loads. We deliver contestable and non-contestable strategies, and we own the scope of works, produce all drawings and technical documentation, and specify the critical equipment such as switch gear, transformers, P&C, and other key components.
