Gym Supervisor

Munster Technological University Cork Campus, which incorporates the MTU Crawford College of Art and Design, MTU Cork School of Music, and the National Maritime College of Ireland, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Gym Supervisor Grade III in the MTU Arena. The Gym Supervisor will work with and assist the Senior Gym Supervisor and other Arena Management with the day to day running of the MTU Arena Gym. Main Duties will include the following, but not limited to: To plan and deliver programmes, exercise classes, events and workshops; Ensuring the fitness areas and activities are promoted and run effectively; To provide a supportive customer service role providing personal attention and care to all members; To ensure the fitness areas and equipment are maintained and presented; To be responsible for the delivery and promotion of various fitness services that offer clients/members a safe method to maximize workout efficiency, improve fitness, promote exercise compliance and satisfy members expectations; To schedule and complete record keeping according to standard operating procedures; Ensure all hygiene, health & safety, and service excellence standards are carried out correctly at all times; Timely production and monitoring of assigned administrative duties; To be responsible for opening & closing of activity areas across the building; To assist with the organisation of overall operations of the facility; To provide cover on main reception when required; To provide shadowing to other staff members such as graduate interns and/or part time staff; Assisting with the design, organisation and implementation of events at the MTU Arena; To oversee the management of fitness equipment & storage areas, including completion of checklists and maintenance logs; To present a professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service; Any other duties as required. The successful candidate will have minimum academic qualifications and experience as follows: Essential: Applicants must have obtained at least Grade D3 in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate Examination (higher, ordinary, applied or vocational programmes) or equivalent including English or English / Communications or Irish (certain posts may require the appointee to have Irish or have a competence in oral Irish to the satisfaction of the University) and one of the following Mathematics, Accounting, Business Organisation or Economics or other mathematics or business- related subject. OR Have passed an examination at the appropriate level within the QQI qualifications framework which can be assessed as being of a comparable or higher standard to include NCVA / FETAC and NCEA / HETAC qualifications or equivalent. OR Have appropriate relevant experience which encompasses equivalent skills and expertise. Desirable: Degree in Coaching Science & Sports Pedagogy, Business in Sport & Exercise Management, Recreation & Leisure Management, Coaching and Sports Performance, Health Sport and Exercise Sciences, Inclusive Sport and Physical Activity, Physical Education Studies with Business or equivalent; A valid EHFA qualification; REPs Ireland recognised Fitness Instructor Qualifications or equivalent; REPs Ireland recognised Personal Trainer or equivalent; Occupational 1st Aid Qualification; Strength & Conditioning coaching qualification and experience; A good knowledge and skill in the use of information and communication technologies and to be able to work to deadlines from time to time; The post will involve access to and processing of significant confidential information and will involve regular interaction with students, the public, academic and other administrative staff, external organisations and individuals at all levels where discretion, tact and courtesy and sound judgement will be required; Fluent verbal and written English; Must possess excellent organisational, interpersonal & communication skills; Ability to communicate at all levels; Be able to work on his/her own initiative and part of a team.
