Job Title: National Director of Emergency Medicine Training Programmes Reporting To: Managing Director, Surgical Affairs or nominee Location: 121 St Stephens Green Department: Department of Surgical Affairs Contract type/duration: 1 day per week - secondment option available Closing date: 9:00am on Thursday 27th of November 2025 Role Overview The National Director is responsible for the efficient, effective provision and coordination of postgraduate Emergency Medicine Training. The role involves collaboration with training programme directors, trainers, trainees, HSE/NDTP and Surgical Affairs management, and other key stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Core Emergency Medicine Training (CSTEM) Oversee the Interview, Selection and Allocation process for CSTEM. Responsible for curriculum updates and alignment with educational needs. Monitor trainee performance and participate in CAPA process. Support TPDs in trainee counselling and advice. Oversee accreditation of training sites and posts. Providing leadership on the integration of the IMGTI programme into EM training and collaborate with national and international sponsoring agencies as required. Advanced Specialty Training Emergency Medicine (ASTEM) Oversee Interview, Selection and Allocation for ASTEM. Provide leadership in EM training and education development. Monitor trainee performance and participate in ARCP process. Ensure appropriate trainee metrics achieved for successful trainee CSCST sign-off. Support TPDs in trainee counselling and advice. Oversee accreditation of training sites and posts. Strategic Development Responsibilities Ensure delivery & implementation of annual NDTP/RCSI SLA KPIs. Support Medical Council accreditation process. Lead development and implementation of an e-Portfolio solution for EM Training. Aligning curriculum and educational components of the programmes as required across CSTEM and ASTEM. Ensure ongoing accreditation of existing and new training posts leading to the expansion of EM training. Support the design, delivery, and oversight of trainer education. Promote regionalised and LTFT training opportunities. Manage annual Trainee Adare Meeting. Develop and continued engagement with Royal College of Emergency Medicine and related committee membership. Promote recruitment into Emergency Medicine and support career information sessions. Chairperson of ICEMT Committee. Funding Responsibilities Participate in NDTP/HSE SLA meetings and deliverables. Coordinate development funding applications. Quality Assurance Lead Medical Council accreditation process, for Emergency Medicine training. Ensure robust quality assurance processes, aligned to programme requirements. Support expansion and accreditation of Emergency Medicine training posts. SDR Applications Review and sign off SDR applications. Represent RCSI at Medical Council appeals. Committee Involvement ICEMT ISPTC IAEM Department of Surgical Affairs Management Group Forum of Postgraduate Medical Training Bodies RCEM Person Specification Qualifications Hold a permanent Consultant in Emergency Medicine post in the Irish Hospital sector Be on the Specialist Division Register of the Medical Council of Ireland in the specialty of Emergency Medicine Fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (FRCEM). Essential Knowledge and Experience Minimum 5 years as an Emergency Medicine Trainer. An established clinician committed to the success of implementing, developing and evaluation of the EM training curriculum and programmes. Experience working with doctors in an educational context. Knowledge of current issues impacting on Emergency Medicine training Evidence of appropriate educational PCS activity. Desirable Knowledge and Experience Previous experience and engagement with RCSI & ICEMT committee structures. Experience as FRCEM examiner. Education qualification such as Postgraduate certificate, diploma or masters in Medical Education Skills and Competencies Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
