Where you will be working

Encyclis Dublin Waste to Energy Facility is located in Dublin 4, on the Poolbeg peninsula.

This fantastic facility has been fully operational since 2017, diverting over 600,000 tonnes of residual waste from landfill every year and providing enough baseload electricity to power over 100,000 homes.

Summary

Coordinate and supervise the day-to-day activities of the assigned operations staff by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate employees.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Oversee the safe, environmentally compliant, and efficient operation of the facility on a rotating shift basis.
Monitor and operate, as necessary the boilers, flue gas treatment, water treatment, turbine/generator, switchgear, and other auxiliary plant systems.
Tour all areas of the plant and monitor the activities of the assigned operating staff.
During emergency or unusual situations, the shift supervisor shall direct or if necessary, personally perform the required operations or corrective actions as well as coordinate the activities of all personnel involved.
Approve all requests for removing equipment from service for maintenance, or other purposes and for ensuring the equipment is properly cleared and tagged in accordance with facility procedures.
Conduct regular safety reviews for operators under your supervision.
Serve as emergency coordinator in the absence of the Facility/Department Manager.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise a group of employees in the Operations Department such as control room operators, crane operators, equipment operators, utility operators, auxiliary operators, tipping floor operators, scale operators and laborers. This position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; approving time sheets; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Requires a broad background in plant operations with at least five (5) years’ experiences in a power or resource recovery plant environment, including hands-on and/or supervisory experience with high pressure boilers and electric generation equipment. Secondary education, (or Irish Leaving Certificate) is required as a minimum.

Engineering degree or equivalent is desirable.

LANGUAGE SKILLS English, both written and verbal communication required. Ability to read, analyse, and interpret general administrative periodicals, technical procedures, plant drawings and regulations. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and subordinates.

REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES Ability to take appropriate safe action on his/her own initiative to prevent equipment damage or injury to personnel during emergencies or unusual situations. Ability to motivate employees, maintain high morale and respect people.
