Salary: Appointment will be made on the Senior Radiographer Scale (€56,185 - €65,062) at a point in line with Government pay policy

Hours of work: Full-Time, 35 hours

Purpose of the Role: The Clinical Practice Tutor is responsible for the effective management of all student radiographers in Beaumont Hospital, notably the supervision and assessment of clinical training as part of the undergraduate curriculum.

Responsibilities

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

- Support the teaching and learning of the undergraduate radiography programme, particularly clinical placement management and supervision/assessment of students during clinical rotations.
- Provide induction to students on Radiography Clinical Education, site policies, and PPPG relevant to their placements.
- Teach and support diagnostic imaging-specific modules and contribute to the delivery and assessment.
- Plan and implement an effective training programme for radiography students on clinical placement within Beaumont Hospital and its satellite units.
- Develop the capacity and quality of the undergraduate Radiography Clinical Education Programme and support both students and radiographers.
- Ensure good radiation practices are observed and understood by students.
- Organise tutorial, group, and peer learning activities for students on placement.
- Prepare student rotas and coordinate students assigned to practice education sites according to service demands and learning objectives.
- Provide ongoing feedback to students about their performance, in conjunction with the radiographers.
- Participate in the clinical supervision of students in collaboration with radiographers.
- Facilitate communication and effective working relationships between the hospital and the university.

Documentation

- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and reasons for absence.
- Formulate student rotas in collaboration with the undergraduate Clinical Co-ordinator and RSM1’s.
- Compile reports at the end of each clinical module for the undergraduate clinical co-ordinator.

Service and Standards

- Maintain high standards of clinical/non-clinical practice.
- Keep abreast of research and practice developments in relevant areas.
- Participate in clinical service to maintain clinical competence.
- Ensure compliance with departmental PPPGs, health and safety guidelines, and infection control procedures.
- Contribute to forward planning and service development.
- Participate in performance reviews.
- Undertake additional responsibilities related to clinical education as assigned.
- Assist with the induction of new staff.
- Ensure high standards of radiographic images.
- Report issues to Radiography Services Managers.
- Communicate with staff to ensure efficient patient flow.
- Advise junior staff on Radiation Protection Protocols.
- Participate in on-call rota and sessional duties.
- Ensure patient comfort during procedures.
- Lead the team to deliver a caring, efficient, and confidential radiographic service.
- Conduct radiographic and imaging examinations as required.
- Maintain flexibility to accommodate urgent cases.
- Contribute to the development of operational policies and guidelines.
- Participate in equipment selection and training.
- Attend required meetings and keep staff updated.
- Motivate team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Radiology Services and Business Manager.

- Ensure compliance with Radiation Protection Rules and Regulations.

- Pay attention to personal appearance while on duty.

Legislation

- Maintain knowledge of regulations regarding medical ionising radiation protection.
- Ensure students understand and comply with hospital PPPGS and relevant legislation on radiation safety.

The successful candidate will work with:

- Undergraduate Clinical Co-ordinators and Head of Teaching, Radiography and Diagnostic Imaging (University)
- Radiographers
- Radiology Services and Business Manager, RSM1s and Quality CSR.

Please note radiographers hired by Beaumont Hospital may be assigned to work in various radiology installations.

The core focus of the CPT role is to develop a positive, patient-focused education program. When service provision needs to be maintained, the CPT will be placed in a clinical role. Scheduling of assessments and teaching sessions will be discussed weekly with RSM1s.

Qualifications

Selection Criteria:

Applications will be assessed based on how well candidates satisfy these criteria.

Mandatory:

- Possess a Degree in Radiography or the Diploma of the College of Radiographers*
- Or possess a qualification at least equivalent to (a) above*
- Applicants must be registered with the Radiographers Registration Board of CORU, the Health and Social Care Professionals Council.
- Have not less than three years satisfactory post-qualification experience.

Post specific requirements:

Demonstrate experience in clinical teaching within the hospital setting and evidence of research activity.

Post holder must be present when students are in the department; on-call cannot impact on student supervision.
