Engineering Manager, Tax Foundations

What's the role?
Etsy is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Payments Tax Foundations team within Payments. This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Payments Consumer Products. You will lead an amazing squad responsible for products where money changes hands on and off the site, including checkout, billing, tax and fees. Tax Foundations supports the growth and operations of Etsy Payments as an agile and sophisticated product and makes a significant impact on the user experience our buyers and sellers have. It's an exciting environment with the opportunity to effect change on an Etsy-sized scale
This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Director. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
This role requires your presence in Etsy's Dublin office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. Candidates living within commutable distance of our Dublin office may be the first to be considered. Learn more details about our work modes and workplace safety policies here.
What's this team like at Etsy?
You will work in tandem with our product management, design and analytics teams to provide a great payments experience to our buyers and sellers while developing resilient systems that help keep Etsy and our sellers compliant with tax and legal requirements on a global scale.
What does the day-to-day look like?
1. You will manage a squad of full-stack engineers focused on Tax integrations at Etsy.
2. You will serve as a coach, mentor, and advocate for the engineers on your team.
3. This role will work with other leaders within Payments, Tax and Legal to develop and evolve the Payments Tax strategy and manage delivery across the portfolio.
4. You will work alongside product management and design to improve new and existing Payments products to make iterative improvements to our core platforms.
5. Your team will be responsible for the operation of critical systems that process billions of dollars in payments and require around-the-clock availability.
6. You will collaborate with other engineering teams to efficiently use our infrastructure and platforms and with other product teams building on our payments platform.
7. Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

2. You are an experienced engineering manager able to support and grow inclusive teams. Can spin yarns about how you've done this right and wrong at your previous jobs. And we'll give bonus points if you can actually spin yarn
3. You are experienced in working with multiple squad partners and external vendors and can articulate risks and dependencies on projects.
4. A plus if you're familiar with tax legislation in multiple regions.
5. Bonus points if you have experience in e-commerce, payments systems, ledger systems, tax collection, reporting and remittance platforms.
