Title and Summary
Manager, Product Development Overview
- Within Product and Engineering, the Network Products team oversees Mastercard’s Next Gen Network initiatives (such as Network Access, Next Edge, Transaction Switching, and Network Solutions).
- The vision for the Network Solutions product development team is to delight our customers and increase our revenues by enhancing our network’s capabilities, functions & reach.
- Network Solutions program leverages Mastercard’s current switch, next gen switch, and Mastercard Edge Platform (edge everywhere, run anywhere) to build new services and generate new sources of revenues.
- This position will deliver for the Network Solutions program in partnership with the cross‑functional global stakeholders: Product Strategy, Product Management, Engineering, Customer delivery, Support chain community.
About the Role
- Integrates business applications at an enterprise level using third‑party middleware or by designing and implementing custom interfaces and mapping for those interfaces.
- Leads efforts to define application integration requirements, responsible for deployment, planning and execution of multi‑tier application integration initiatives.
- Demonstrate end‑to‑end ownership and partnership with Product Management and Engineering teams to design, develop, test and deliver scalable products for commercialization, ensuring the build effort concludes on time and budget, enabling a go‑to‑market plan focused on ease of delivery and great customer experience.
- Ensure the integrity and consistency of the delivery of the vision across all products: capabilities, scalability, performance, speed‑to‑market, readiness for growth, re‑usability.
- Define epic‑level requirements, dependencies, design and define the flows and interfaces for the product, perform joint solution design with Product Architecture and Engineering teams, structure the roadmap and propose phasing of the delivery, prioritize the backlog, define the acceptance criteria, participate to the demo, accept the features.
- Identify, track, and resolve dependencies to other teams/systems. Become an SME on the API components, processing, subordinate system topology.
- Create and maintain internal and customer‑facing product documentation both in ad‑hoc offline formats (word, excel, etc.) and online within Mastercard’s API content management system “MC Developers”.
- Produce the artifacts needed by our internal customers with consistency, quality, and care: sequence diagrams, capability training decks for product management, DevZone API articles, content to be inserted in product guide.
- Demonstrate project management capabilities to elaborate a joint delivery plan with multiple squads participating in the delivery, from switch and edge.
- Apply logic, reasoning, and sound decision‑making skills to elaborate solutions with Engineering teams.
- Elaborate the concepts and achieve clarity of thought about what will ultimately be built.
- Occasional features and story writing may be required.
- Fully understand the functionality, architecture, dependencies, and runtime properties of the systems supporting the products, including business requirements, use cases, UX, back‑office systems, technical stack, interfaces and associated data flows, dependent applications/services, runtime operations (i.e. trouble management/associated support strategies), and maintenance.
- Ensure replication of knowledge, share workload on initiatives, ensure mutual back‑up, help the team scale, learn, and expand its scope.
Major Accountabilities
- Provide technical analysis of product or application hardware and software to ensure that business and functional requirements can be met.
- Define epic‑level requirements, including dependencies, pre‑requisites, and design considerations/open questions. Drive open questions to closure.
- Ensure API design and enhancements are within API Gold Standard guidelines. Manage API Gold Standard review process and the API score and re‑scoring process.
- Identify, manage, and close dependencies to other teams or systems.
- Creation of internal‑facing and customer‑facing documentation leveraging ad‑hoc tools and Mastercard’s API content management system.
- Contribute to planning activities such as backlog grooming, iteration planning/story slotting, Program Increment (PI) planning and other activities as needed.
- Lead epic/feature/story sizing efforts with relevant stakeholders from Architecture, Engineering, and other support teams as needed.
- Provide technical support to Business Owners during implementation of new products/services.
- Provide subject matter expertise for support escalations.
- Prioritize and identify cross application/system enhancements.
- Determine development impacts to current processing and work with programmers and users to ensure accuracy of enhancements.
- Lead review sessions of technical requirements.
- Manage defect resolution process.
All About You
- Intermediate skills in software engineering concepts and software development methodologies.
- Experience in elaborating requirements, designing solutions, understanding systems capabilities and limitations by executing on features and enhancements.
- Demonstrated experience with Agile development methodology strong preferred.
- Experience in creating requirements and performing stories elaboration on a full stack application (from the web front‑end down to a data warehouse) is a definite plus.
- Intermediate skills in project planning, tracking and communicating progress.
- Intermediate skills in project execution and implementation.
- Intermediate skills in identifying areas open to improvements and taking the necessary steps with an understanding of the accompanying impacts, dependencies and risks.
- Problem solving and pragmatic mindset, analytical skills, attention to documentation.
- Knowledge of REST API design patterns and gRPC a distinct advantage.
- Knowledge of ISO 20022 and/or ISO 8583 messaging standards a distinct advantage.
