Principal Thermal Coating Engineer- Medical Devices

Overview SSA are recruiting a Principal Thermal Coating Engineer on behalf of a global MedTech manufacturer. This is a senior, on-site hire based in Cork.
Responsibilities Lead the design, development, and validation of thermal and surface coating processes for medical devices
Provide technical leadership in coating materials, deposition methods, and process optimisation
Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure scalability and compliance with EU and FDA regulations
Develop and maintain coating specifications, documentation, and process controls
Troubleshoot and resolve coating-related issues in production and product development
Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering technical excellence across the team
Stay abreast of emerging coating technologies and drive continuous innovation
Requirements Degree or higher in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline
5+ years’ experience in coating technologies, ideally within MedTech, pharma, or advanced manufacturing
Deep knowledge of thermal spray, PVD, CVD, or related deposition techniques
Strong understanding of medical device regulations (ISO 13485, FDA, EU MDR)
Proven track record in process validation, documentation, and regulatory compliance
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills
