Software Development Manager, Relational Database Services

We are seeking a talented Software Development Manager to join the AWS Relational Database Service (RDS) team in Dublin, Ireland. RDS manages the world's largest fleet of relational databases and our customers rely on us to keep their data safe, secure, and highly available.
Job Description:The successful candidate will own a subset of the RDS service, managing a team of engineers with room for growth. The role encompasses both people and project management, providing opportunities to set the team's roadmap and work closely with large enterprise customers, product management teams, support teams, senior engineers, and other managers within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) organization.
You will be responsible for working with principal and senior developers to decide on end-to-end implementation of new features for the Amazon Relational Database Services (RDS) service. You will also provide support, guidance, and coaching to your team to grow their skills, overcome obstacles, and help them tackle new challenges.
Key Responsibilities:- Work with principal and senior developers to decide on an end-to-end implementation of new features for the Amazon Relational Database Services (RDS) service.
- Use feedback from recent customer conversations to work with product management to define new features and how they fit into your product roadmap.
- Provide support, guidance, and coaching to your team to grow their skills, overcome obstacles, and help them tackle new challenges.
- Tackle systematic problems and improve how your team operates, both internally and when interacting with other teams.
- Handle escalations from other teams and customers that need a feature urgently, understanding the impact on dependencies and the trade-offs required, rapidly making a decision on how your team can help.
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
- Experience in engineering team management.

- Experience partnering with product and program management teams.
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers.
