A position is available for a Post-Doctoral Researcher to join a new, high-impact project at Cork University Business School (CUBS). The successful candidate will work with a team of researchers, working under the guidance of the Principal Investigator and the research fellow, to deliver an innovative research programme focused on supporting and scaling up the just transition to a circular economy in Ireland. The project is funded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The Post doctoral researcher will work with the research team in:

- Identifying circular business models, collaborative consumption models, infrastructure needs, social enterprises, financial incentives and systems that could be developed to support and scale-up the transition to the circular economy.

- Exploring ways to develop circular business and collaborative consumption models, infrastructure and social enterprises.

- Assessing the socio-economic and cultural impacts of the transition to the circular economy and bioeconomy at both local/regional and rural/urban levels.

- Designing financial incentives and systems to support industrial transformation, servitisation and consumer behaviour changes.

- Identifying holistic solutions to achieve a just and inclusive transition to the circular economy.

- Developing and implementing research instruments such as surveys, interviews and focus groups.

- Conducting quantitative and qualitative data analysis using software such as Stata and Qualtrics.

- Engaging with key stakeholder groups, including the research community, industry partners, and other collaborators.

- Reporting regularly to the EPA and the project’s steering committee.

- Authoring and co-authoring publications and project reports; and

- Disseminating project outputs at national and international conferences and events.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with a high level of initiative, capable of working both independently and collaboratively with other team members. The candidate should have fluent English and excellent communication, organisation, planning and interpersonal skills. Ideally, the candidate will have experience in circular economy research and a strong understanding of the circular economy landscape in Ireland. Proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative research is essential. A solid background in data and econometric analysis is required, with previous experience using Stata, Qualtrics and other similar software also desirable.

Achievement of the expected progression within Post Doc and Senior Post Doc is transferable between the Irish HEI’s. This can be reflected in the starting pay of a PD researcher. Similarly, as the PD scheme is an intergenerational training scheme completion of PD1 or PD 2 levels in one HEI will normally render that researcher ineligible for appointment at a similar level in another Irish HEI Researcher Career Development Framework | Irish Universities Association

Project Title:Supporting and scaling up the just transition to the circular economy

The primary focus of the Postdoctoral Researcher will be research however a particular emphasis during this stage should include:

- To conduct a specified programme of research under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator/Project Leader.

- To engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities as required by the Principal Investigator, School or College in order to develop research skills and competencies.

- To gain experience in grant writing.

- To engage in the dissemination of the results of the research in which they are engaged, as directed by, with the support of and under the supervision of a Principal Investigator.

- To become familiar with the publication process.

- To acquire generic and transferable skills (including project management, business skills and postgraduate mentoring/supervision).

- To engage in the wider research and scholarly activities of the research group, School or College.

- To interact closely with postgraduate research students who are studying for a Masters or a PhD and possibly have an agreed role in supporting these students in their day-to-day research in conjunction with an academic supervisor.

- To carry out administrative work to support the programme of research.

- To carry out additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.

- To contribute to costing research grant proposals and assist in the financial management of a research project.
