Join us as aIP Operations Engineer

Three Ireland is looking for a highly motivated and experienced IP engineer to join their IP Operations Back Office team. The IP Operations Back Office team integrates into a wider IP Network team comprised of IP Operations Front Office, IP Design, IP Performance, IP Service Delivery, and IP Change Management, to deliver best practice IP network solutions/changes at Three Ireland.

The overall goal for the IP Network team is to achieve efficient, high quality and cost-effective delivery, while maintaining network stability and meeting growth and performance demands. We also continuously and proactively implement the necessary measures to maintain a secure and stable IP network to mitigate risks of service outage on our critical business services.

The IP Operations Back Office team is made up of highly skilled IP engineers, IP technical leads and an IP Change Manager/Co-ordinator. The responsibilities of the team include implementing all IP network changes (low, medium, high risk) on the Three Ireland IP network whether derived from BAU, project or incident. Depending on the complexity and/or risk of service impact, changes are scheduled either within or outside of normal working hours. Preventative maintenance, lifecycle management, security and continuous service improvement measures are also very important activities for IP Operations to maintain IP network stability.

IP Back Office Operations provide a 24/7 on-call service for P1/P2 incidents which are governed by a separate Incident Management team. IP Front Office Operations provide monitoring and level 1 support with IP Back Office Operations providing level 2 advanced troubleshooting and the ability to escalate to level 3 vendor support as required.

Responsibilities include analyzing/troubleshooting network faults and conducting effective and timely fault resolution, ensuring adherence to key SLAs, providing on-call cover both within and outside business hours to manage major incidents/faults, BAU and problem ticket resolution, participating in deep dive investigations and priority escalations (e.g., latency, MTU, speed test performance), supporting continuous and proactive security and stability measures, performing regular failover/resilience testing and audit/cleanup activities, planning/deploying routine preventive and corrective maintenance changes, preparing deployment plans and implementing changes on the IP Network, and working closely with the IP Design team and IP Performance Consultant on Operational input for project and performance documentation.

What else it involves

- FTR implementation through effective testing & peer reviewing
- Ensure effective monitoring through appropriate KPIs has been implemented
- Produce and maintain high quality reference documentation including topology diagrams
- Participate in decommissioning activities that will allow obsolete IP configs, firewall rules, switch interfaces and IP devices to be disabled/removed
- Contributing to operational readiness review (ORR) for acceptance into Operational service
- Engaging technical vendors for fault fixing to ensure cases are raised with the appropriate priority to ensure timely updates, root causes and resolutions in line with contracted SLAs
- Working closely with the InfoSec Team to ensure the IP Operations deliverables meet the Security Policy
- Ensuring that EOL (End of Life) risks are accurately represented and maintained in the IP Risk Register
- Remaining abreast of current and emerging industry trends and best practices; identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies and make recommendations for improvements. Fostering a strong working relationship with IP Operations Front Office, IP Design, IP Performance, and other operational and design teams (IT, Core, RAN, Service Delivery, Data Centre)
- Acting as a role model and providing direction and leadership to other engineers within the IP Operations Back Office Team
- Drive technical workshops and knowledge transfer sessions to socialise IP changes, solutions, and innovations to the IP Networks Teams

The skills we are looking for

- A Degree in Computer Science or Engineering and/or a minimum of 4 years of proven experience within a Telco or Service Provider environment
- CCNP or higher qualification. Must have a strong Cisco and/or Juniper background with LAN/VXLAN/WAN/SDWAN/WIFI experience
- Proven experience with Security solutions such as Firewall, IDS/IPS, URL Filtering is preferrable
- Must have proven experience of L2/L3 protocols and technologies, such as MPLS, IoT, BGP, OSPF, RIP, IPSec, VoIP, VXLAN, QoS, 802.1Q/QinQ, MTU, Ethernet, xDSL, Wireless Leased lines, Cellular technologies 3G/4G/5G and Overlay solutions (SDWAN)
- Experience in load balancing technologies
- Experience in scripting, e.g., Python, API development and Git workflows, along with hands-on knowledge of Configuration Management and deployment tools such as Ansible
- Experience with Cloud solutions such as AWS and/or AZURE beneficial
- Strong operational awareness and understanding of the impact of network change on the Customer base
- Proven experience of delivering small/medium IP network solutions.
- Ability to work efficiently as a team player and contribute to team effectiveness
- Experience in presenting to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Outstanding relationship management skills with an ability and willingness to work with, spearhead and influence people at all levels across the organisation
- Highly motivated candidate who is willing to go the extra mile to achieve high quality outcomes
- High level of flexibility, willingness to learn and develop both alone and as part of a team
