
Engineering Enablement Lead

Overview Job Purpose: At Primark we are looking to change the way we deliver technology changes to the systems our customers consume. To drive this change, we are looking for an experienced Engineering Enablement Lead who has a strong background in delivering this type of change in a fast-paced environment. In this role, you will oversee and optimise the way we deliver these technology changes to maximise value at minimum cost. You will be accountable for the enablement and adoption of Software Engineering principles to Primark. Working with our Engineering Managers, Portfolio Delivery Leads, and Product Teams. You will lead the Engineering Enablement practice across technology, where we aim to enable more frequent and faster deployments, improve software quality, reduce change failure rate and improve the mean time to recover in the event of an issue occurring. You will play a critical role in the Engineering Enablement team where you will be embedding agile ways of working and instilling best in class software engineering techniques.
Key Responsibilities Responsible for leading the design & delivery of software engineering principles, modern development practices, utisiling modern tooling and automation.
Own the strategy for this area and ensure that key stakeholders are informed.
Promote technology values and ways of working within the team and wider software engineering community.
Demonstrate and champion pragmatism in terms of commercial delivery and software quality.
Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across technology.
Pro-actively seek relevant external insight, trends and innovations to ensure Primark remains best in class within your area.
Orchestrate a culture of collaboration across the organisation to ensure scalability and long-term efficiency.
Develop a culture of awareness, accountability and compliance with regards to Security, GDPR, IT governance controls and Business continuity/Disaster recovery.
Drive automation in all aspects of the SDLC.
Improve software delivery and operational performance measured through industry standard metrics.
Build strong relationships with both our internal senior stakeholders and key partner stakeholders to ensure a seamless software delivery capability across the Primark Technology and Business Domains.
Enable the engineering experience so that engineers can focus on delivering high-quality products and services.
Knowledge & Experience Required 10+ years in software engineering or DevOps, including 5+ years in a leadership or a management role.
Strong knowledge of software engineering principles, system design, and modern development practices.
Proven experience with cloud platforms (such as Azure, GCP) and IaC tooling such as Terraform.
Strong experience with CI/CD tooling integrated with source control (such as GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps) at scale.
Experience with the Atlassian Suite or similar tooling.
Working knowledge of scalable Agile SDLCs and distributed systems.
Experience with event-driven microservice architectures/platforms an advantage.
Familiarity with high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices.
Demonstrated success in leading teams through enterprise-grade software delivery and operations.
Stakeholder-focused with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
